With three episodes left to air in Season 6, CBS‘ FBI appears to be taking a veteran team member out of the field.
The April 23 episode, “Family Affair,” revolved around the abduction of a pregnant woman, Denise, by her cult leader father. With a begrudging OK from the ATF (which had been keeping eyes on the cult’s well-armed commune), the FBI team launched a plan to find and rescue Denise. Scola posed as the weekly food delivery driver, with Maggie and OA hiding in the back of his truck. After Scola pulled up to the commune’s main house, Maggie and OA slipped out and stealthily searched the premises for Denise.
Just as Maggie found Denise chained to a bed in an upstairs bedroom, some brainwashed little cult member rugrat saw her, then ran outside and snitched to one of the guards. That guard raced to the room, saw and shot Maggie, who slumped to the floor. But as the guard stood over the fallen fed, Maggie cleverly slipped her pistol out from beneath her, and popped the guy.
The commune swung into “Outside intruder!!!” mode, with alarms blaring and the women and children protecting the armed menfolk by standing in the LEOs’ line of fire. Scola found Maggie, who’d been saved by her vest, and they hunkered down in the bedroom with Denise, barricading the door and then waiting with pistols drawn, while a guard whacked at the door with a sledgehammer.
OA meanwhile chased down and shot the elusive “prophet” cult leader, and forced him to make his guards — including those about to bust through the bedroom door — stand down.
Sitting with OA in the car afterward, a shook Maggie regarded the bullet that had been stopped by her Kevlar vest.
“It was a close call,” OA noted.
“Too close,” Maggie uttered. “An inch down or to the left and I would’ve… It would have been over.
“I worry about Ella,” Maggie continued, referring to the young daughter of her recently passed friend Jessica, to whom she has been serving as a mother figure. “I mean, how can I not? If something were to happen to me, that poor girl would have to start over? Again? She needs me.”
That night at the office, OA stayed behind to handle the paperwork — and also pick up a conversation he’d had earlier, with a concerned Isobel.
“I think today really shook [Maggie],” he shared. “Is there any way that you could, I don’t know, demand that she take some time off…? I just know she’s never going to ask for it.”
“Yeah, I can,” Isobel nodded. “Is that what you feel needs to happen…?”
Giving the situation — including, I assume, the fact that he was asking his partner to be benched — careful thought, OA affirmed, “Yeah. I do. She almost made that little girl an orphan all over agin. So, yes.”
Do you think Isobel will in fact order Special Agent Bell (played by original FBI cast member Missy Peregrym) to take the bereavement leave she thus far has rejected? If so, how will Maggie respond? And even if she agrees to “temporary” leave, at what point would the surrogate mom ever be “OK” returning to her dangerous line of work?
I hope Maggie will continue to be a character on the FBI show.
I don’t think Maggie will leave. Missy just took off a year to have a baby. The very popular Shantel van Santen took over for the season. She’s now a regular on Most Wanted. If Maggie was going to leave so soon after she returned, they probably would have just kept van Santen in the role.
Not necessarily lol , she left at the end of s4 and now where near end of s6 she came back 6 Ep into last season so she’s done a whole other 22 episodes in that time …. Imo and stories change between seasons a lot , and I know , no one to replace her with unless they bring back Kristen 🙄
Without Missy FBI would not be the same. I don’t think CBS would have renewed the series for three more years. Surely she is not leaving the series!
Fans have said that about CBS procedurals since they started airing. They keep changing the casts, and we keep watching. If Missy were to leave, they could bring back Shantal. I thought is was weird that they moved her to the Most Wanted show. She was a bigger name than I would have thought for that. But it makes sense if they were worried that Missy might leave permanently, and they wanted to keep Shantal around to step back in.
.
I feel like the production demands of these FBI shows are draining on the field agent actors. The control room folks have much less demanding roles. I could easily see the lead field agents getting burnt out.
.
Plus, I think CBS and Dick Wolfe have learned the error of thier ways WRT letting a few characters dominate the shows.
Luke Kleintank is leaving FBI International. “This decision is driven by my unwavering commitment to my family, whose love and well-being are paramount in my life,” Kleintank said in a statement. So many characters have left that something feels off. I’m not going to keep watching if this continues.
I really hope Maggie doesn’t leave the show, to me, she is the one that makes the show worth watching
I watch FBI I love OA and Maggie together hoping she’s not leaving
Agree with you
Marlene, I also agree with you. OA and Maggie have great chemistry on this show. I hope Maggie (Missy) doesn’t leave.
I hope she doesn’t leave she’s my favorite
It’s amazing how physically fit the four actors who play FBI field agents, given how much running around they do on the show. Missy Peregryme is actually 41 years old and may have come to the realization that it’s time to move on, or maybe CBS mandated that she be replaced with someone younger. I strongly believe that the Apr. 23 episode was written partially as an excuse for ending Maggie’s career (sigh).
I doubt they would have renewed FBI for three seasons if Maggie left
Maggie’s my favorite, so if she goes it will become a different show completely. I am assuming she stays ….. she’s the best.
I hope Missy Peregym isn’t leaving FBI she is so good as OA’s partner! 😍
Is she pregnant again or leaving the show?
I thought she looked pregnant in this episode. The flannel shacket she was wearing was sooo baggy.
I thought the same thing. Hopefully, she is pregnant and not leaving the show.
That was my first thought – that she’s pregnant again. Which leads me to believe that, after having three kids, she won’t be coming back.
My sense is Missy is leaving the series. I love all three of the FBI series but the constant turnover of actors is disruptive to the shows. She’s the heart and soul of FBI and will be missed if she does depart.
Agreed. And now we hear the lead guy on International is leaving! Yikes.
Maggie was missed when she was out on maternity leave although Shantal did an excellent job on FBI (and now on Most Wanted. Love her relationship with Scola)
Luke Kleintank is leaving FBI International. “This decision is driven by my unwavering commitment to my family, whose love and well-being are paramount in my life,” Kleintank said in a statement. It seems off that so many actors are leaving.
I agree it seems like once you become vested in a character he or she leaves. None of the shows are immune to actors leaving!!
Hate to lose Missy/Maggie again. The actors are great but there is a special inner “shining” that we noticed in her earlier role in another police series. It is a very rare occurrence. Nicolas Cage has some of this quality.
We understand if she needs to be with her family, but the series will embody a huge emptiness without her.
Her acting instincts always land right on. There is a love and sincerity that permeated her characters.
Again, she “Shines”
Please don’t go Maggie! However if Missy is pregnant with baby number 3 I will definitely understand. FBI wouldn’t be the same without you!
I would hate to see Maggie be written out of the show. I believe she is an integral part of the cast. And I love the the way she and OA get along. Like a real life BFS, girlfriend/boyfriend.
I hope and pray she is not leaving to show permanently. I love her character
Keep Maggie on the show!!!
If FBI benches her I will stop watching the show
Quite frankly missy keeps having children and we expert her to work 9monfhs out of the year for her to be on fbi , I mean babe she wants out , she has kids at home she ain’t seeing … I think it’s time anyway s6 is a nice around number , tho they could or should just end the series now and keep the other most wanted on , international will flop without Scott , was hard without Jamie and now Scott ? Is he leaving to go to USA with her ?
FBI was just renewed for another THREE seasons.
If Maggie I will stop watching FBI so not a good idea
If Maggie goes, I go. She’s the main reason I watch the show. They gotta keep her!
She has already taken two leaves for family matters. Also, the three FBI series are a revolving door for cast members. Anyone who doesn’t think she could or would leave, hasn’t been paying attention.
Missile needs to stay on the show
They had just better keep her in the series…I watch it to see her
You have the sequence of how Maggie was shot incorrectly, she was not shot when Scola was there, she was shot before by the guard alerted by the kid.
Oh, and I do hope Missy doesn’t leave, I like her character and her and Ziko (OA) work well together onscreen.
I can understand why Maggie wouldn’t leave but I really hope she doesn’t with her not there she makes a big part of the show and she would be very muchly missed and it wouldn’t be the same without her there.
I think this is just part of the storyline. We are almost at the end of the season. She will be off, or might be shown off the job, and then back in the fall once Maggie has time to process her new situation, and get Ella on a firmer ground. If she was leaving. They would have taken the chance to announce it, like they did with that other departure in the franchise.
Please do not leave the cast is perfect.
I wonder if there’s a character compromise – keep the popular actor on the show but give Maggie a desk job for awhile so she can safely go home to Ella every night.
Or why not do a round of promotions? Promote Maggie and OA to Jubal and Isobel’s Jobs and Scola and Tiff to Maggie and OA’s Positions. Then have Jubal and Isobel promoted higher within the FBI. It’s kind of shocking that this far into the show’s lifetime these characters have not been given promotions or have been given promotions befitting their years of service and meritorious conduct. It’s frankly insulting.
