          My copy is odd in that the left channel fades out to nigh-on nothing after about 2 minutes.

            This is dark minimal ambient and quite superb. Disc 2 of 'Gone to Earth' showed that Sylvian was adept at instrumental ambient but this went further into territory almost uninhabited by conventional musical notions (at least notions held by the majority of his 'Japan' era fans). Add to this the collaborative influence of Holger 'Einstein' Czukay and what we have is a tour de force. The first piece is dark and dessicated, tension ebbs and flows, fragmentary and elusive. The second piece is warmer, less threatening, more fluid and somehow comforting. If you like Biosphere's 'Cirque' especially the quieter pieces, check this.
