      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Away doesn't reach the stratosphere as a spacetime adventure, but emotional earnestness and a strong cast help make this a compelling enough journey to the stars.

Elamin Abdelmahmoud BuzzFeed News In Away, space is a shortcut. It artificially heightens the stakes of every plotline because it’s space! Apr 5, 2022 Full Review Ben Travers indieWire "Away" is too long to recommend, but by prioritizing people, the series fitfully finds relevance in examining how distance can affect relationships. Rated: C Sep 10, 2020 Full Review Scott Bryan BBC.com It manages to make space boring and that's the thing I couldn't get past, space with its infiniteness and its possibility. Sep 10, 2020 Full Review Daryl MacDonald InSession Film Away rewards full attention and commitment. Rated: B Apr 26, 2024 Full Review Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community It’s a blend of mechanical, emotional, and medical struggle, both in space and on the ground, delivered an intriguing story. Rated: 9/10 Jan 22, 2023 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Netflix’s latest streaming series has its issues, but overall, Away is an engaging series about exploration of life, love, and family, and how when science can’t come up with the answers, faith will fill in the gaps. -ram - Now I've seen the first episode and I won't continue watching anymore. The direction, production and acting are so bad that I had to watch at 1.5 speed just to not die of boredom. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/03/24 Full Review Audience Member Any show that goes to space call itself a si-fi show, this, like most, is not, it is an over dramatic show, although the scenes and the cast are very good the story is almost as tedious as a year in space, if to bore the audience as if we were in the ship was the goal of the writers and director(s) they succeed. I am trying hard to watch it all the way to see if they get alive on Mars, I don't know if I will. It had it all to make a great show, only if the families drama was only ten percent of what it is it would be much better. Also I don't believe any astronaut family member would be mad of their relatives being away in space, it is unreal and boring. Only five going to Mars, not real as well, and this crew wouldn't "survive" a week of training together as they don't get along, it is also unreal as they would need to be as one in space and anything less would not be allowed. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Craig J Had the potential to be a great series. Too melodramatic for me to suspend disbelief. From the first episode, NASA would not have assembled that group with their collective disfunction for a Mars mission. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review David B I was gripped by this from beginning to end. The side stories enhance the main story of a group of astronauts travelling to Mars. I found myself constantly on the edge of my seat and watched it in 24 hours. It was brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/28/23 Full Review Kirk B Most wretched series I've ever spent 3 hours Trying to connect with. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review Rob C What happens if you send a totally inappropriate crew on a mission to Mars? Must have seemed a good idea at time and it is beautifully acted but this is not a courtroom drama, it's Sci-fi and it's really boring.
