Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, recently spoke about the highlights of her career with Star Wars and hinted at some news about The Mandalorian & Grogu. Kennedy has been president of Lucasfilm, the company behind Star Wars since 2012. She was hired by George Lucas just before Disney acquired the franchise, and she's been leading the company for many of the most recent Star Wars movies and shows. Kennedy is also in charge of upcoming Star Wars movies, and she may have hinted at an update about The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Kennedy threw the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game on Star Wars Day, and a video from Dodger Blue showed that prior to the start of the game, she went through some of the highlights of her time in the film industry.

Kennedy began by going through some moments from early in her career, such as meeting George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. She was then asked about every aspect of her career, from the thing she was most proud of to her favorite project and memory of her time with Lucasfilm.

"I couldn't say a favorite. I love making movies, so that's my favorite thing."

"You know, I've had a pretty great time with all of them. You know, taking what George Lucas created and doing more of what he's done and finishing the saga and doing television now, it's been really rewarding."

"I think it's the first time I met Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher and the whole gang. I knew Harrison [Ford] from Indiana Jones, but meeting those guys was pretty special."

"I'm most proud of the fact that, I love movies, I've been able to do this my entire life, and I feel very fortunate."

She also revealed that BB-8 would make the best baseball player, "so long as nobody hit him with a bat." Additionally, when asked what she was most excited about for the future of Star Wars, Kennedy chose the upcoming movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, saying, "We're about to start the Mandalorian movie, so I'm really looking forward to that." While other Star Wars projects, like The Acolyte, will release before Din Djarin and Grogu's film debut, Kennedy's excitement about the next movie makes sense given her love for the process of creating films.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie Is Rumored To Begin Filming Soon

Din Djarin and Grogu fly away from an explosion in concept art for The Mandalorian & Grogu movie

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be Star Wars' first return to theatrical movie releases since 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Because of that, when The Mandalorian & Grogu was announced in January, there were already rumors that its production would be fast-tracked. The movie's release date of May 22, 2026 is already confirmed, which means production will likely begin soon in order to complete filming in time for the rest of the process to take place. It has been rumored that The Mandalorian & Grogu would begin production in June of this year.

The Mandalorian & Grogu's rumored production start date would match up with Kennedy's comments. That could be an indication that Lucasfilm will soon share news about the franchise's return to theaters, which is an exciting prospect. Her openness in talking about the film could also indicate more news is on the horizon for the franchise, though nothing has been confirmed. While filming for The Mandalorian & Grogu could begin quite soon, many details about the movie are still a ways off. It's unlikely that much will be revealed about The Mandalorian & Grogu beyond its production status and some early teases until closer to its May 2026 release date.
