I had stayed here when I first visited China in Jan 2010. Even though very few staff members spoke fluent english, they more than made up for it in their hospitality. Extremely friendly and helpful. Very clean rooms, prompt service, and on the last day when I tried tipping the housekeeping staff they simply refused to accept!
Once I got off the cab at the hotel door, and realized I left my cap in the cab as it took off... A female staffer standing on the pavement ran all the way down the street yelling and chasing after him...

The breakfast buffet is fantastic. I still remember the white chinese bread they served... On most days there's a good chance you will find the owner of the hotel eating there... Full marks for personal attention.

Room Tip: Try getting the lake view. I got the city view and that just overlooks a narrow street...

Good clean rooms and has all the facilities.

Staff do not speak much English but better than my Mandarin!

About 10 mins taxi from Train Station. Too far to walk if you have heavy backpacks or its raining. Plenty of good value cafes/restaurants near by.

First impressions of this hotel are good but be aware some of the rooms are pretty grim.

Negatives - my room was a two tone colour as redecoration was attempted in the past but needs to be done again and properly. The bathroom walls are artexed which means nothing can be wiped off them. There are marks all around the toilet area, I felt sick when I saw this. My bed was like a rock. No English channels on the TV, not even CCTV news.

Positives - next to Zhongshan park, 5 minutes walk to KFC, 10 minutes to pedestrian shopping street, staff at reception speak some English. Things seemed clean, free tea, mugs in room, fixed line internet in room, wifi in reception, usual toothbrushes etc provided.

My husband and me stayed in a single room on 5th (maybe??) floor at street side for about 150RMB/night per night. This room could be called as double room since they had huge bed in it.
Over all we are satisfied with this hotel, clerks speak moderate English and try hard to help us, bed matless is enough sick and soft to sleep well, close to the bus station ershi (二市站), privide budget day trip tours by zhonguo qingnian luxinshe (中国青年旅行社) to the Dulu (土楼) and some stall style restaurants serve fresh seafoods located nearby the hotel.
Bad points, actually they became better thorough our 3 nights stay though ... the worst we felt as enterd the room was smell! Smelt sewage and smoke too badly but they've almost faded away in our 3nights stay. Also what we didn't like was mold on shower cartain.
Anyway I would reccomend other perople to stay here since it's super cheap for its quality. The cost per person should be almost same as cost of one bed in a dormitory room. Some people mentioned about noise from outside but I was not annoyed by them though my ears are sooooo keen :)

I will rate this hotel at the point of 3.5 to 4.0 in overall which cover from the hotel surrounding facilities, hotel's room itself, services render from reception counter, operator, dining/restaurant and housekeeping. Hotel room is comfortable, quiet and big enough, price reasonable and worth stay. Transportation to shopping centre, restaurant and shops nearby the city is very convenient and cheap. Some staffs may need to improve the communication skill (be more polite , talk softly & always put a smiling face)

Very simple room. Good value for a single overnight stay. Recommended for the single/backpacker types. Good location and low price. Breakfast is a very simple, local cuisine (rice porridge w/some simple toppings, pork buns, boiled eggs, and soy bean milk). Your pretty much get what you pay for. I was not satisfied due to the very noisy neighbors/thin walls.

I stayed in that hotel 3 days and 2 nights, actually I didn't face any problem to find the hotel although that was my first time in Xiamen as well as China. Moreover I didn't know a single chinese word but the driver could easily know the hotel address. The front desk understood me and they could arrange evertyhing according to my needs. I felt secure as the use of RFID tag for the door lock and felt comfort to get a such kind of city view nice comfortable and cozy room. I passed my time without any problem and got everthing that my necessaries. The breakfast from the hotel authority was satisfiable and check out was easy and non-hazardous.

Its a clean, old hotel. Nothing great, but a comfortable bed for a nights sleep. Free internet that worked well. Off the beaten path, so little traffic to disturb you. Friendly, English speaking staff (at least front desk). Worht the cheap price I got the room for, but NOTHING elaborate.
