Deepak Hooda, on Tuesday, June 28, smashed his maiden T20I century off a mere 49 balls against Ireland at The Village in Dublin. The right-handed batter missed out on a half-century in the first game as he stayed unbeaten on 47 with India chasing down 110 with 16 balls to spare.

In the second game, Hooda looked in excellent touch after India elected to bat first on an excellent batting strip. The Men in Blue didn’t make the greatest of starts as Ishan Kishan perished for three to fast bowler Mark Adair.

From there on, Samson and Hooda took charge and put India in a position of command. The duo made sure that Ireland couldn’t get a foothold back in the contest. Hooda raced away to his half-century off 27 balls to show that he could hit the ball a long distance.

Hooda perished after scoring 104 runs with the help of nine fours and six sixes in his knock. Left-arm pacer Joshua Little got rid of the right-hander, but by then, India had already gone past the 200-run mark. Hooda also shared a crucial 176-run stand for the second wicket with Samson.

Hooda also became the fourth Indian batter after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul to score a century in T20Is. More than a decade ago, it was Raina who became the first Indian to hit a T20I century, after which Sharma and Rahul followed suit.

Hooda had an excellent campaign for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), after which he was called up to play for the national team.
