Kudos to Natalie Portman for creating this great movie. I'm not going to criticize those who hated it. I have a fairly high IQ, excellent taste, and i lived in NYC in 1977. I did not really pay much attention to Ms Portman in Star Wars; she caught my attention in V for Vendetta, and of course she deserved the Oscar for Best Actress in Black Swan. I enjoyed every vignette: to me they were all excellent, some poignant, some with a surprise ending, and some laugh out loud hilarious. I enjoyed the varied cast of great actors. I had searched Carlos Acosta, the great, world class dancer from Cuba, and his resumé led me to this movie, which i then ordered on faith. And his piece about being the dad (mistaken for a "manny") to a little girl who was completely in love with life, and her dad, was so uplifting (Carlos even performs a segment of a modern ballet)! I read a very negative review about 'New York, I Love You', and am very glad i did not let it dissuade me from ordering. I feel a little sad for those who could not appreciate it, but to each his own.

I'd say this film probably depicts everyday life in the Big Apple and most possibly every large metropolitan city in the USA. Very enjoyable, fun film. Great acting with engaging characters. Beautiful scenery of NYC. Enjoyed this movie as a nice diversion - nothing heavy or overly dramatic here. Just pure enjoyable pass the time entertainment. :-)

If you bought this movie because of the preview, or if you’re about to, don’t.
The preview was the only interesting part of the movie.

Very much wanted to love this because of the number of well-known actors in it, plus NEW YORK!!... but overall was left depressed and somewhat grossed out. From a filmmaker's perspective or a film student's perspective, it would be a fascinating study, as the cinematography and the music is undeniably beautiful.

But too many forced, not funny cliches, and morbid sudden scenes of blood and death, left me feeling quite melancholy and dispirited. Where exactly was the love? Maybe in the old couple at the very end, but even that felt very cliche. Clearly I guess it all depends upon the perspective from which you approach this film.

It was visually enchanting, invites you in to be intrigued, but then leads you down blind alleys, never quite touching your heart or living up to its promise. If you're in a depressed mood to begin with, beware, because you will be even more so after watching this. Speaking for myself of course. Maybe you are a sturdier type, emotionally unfazed by morbid Art Films.

Still, 3 stars at least for enchanting cinematography and beautiful music. A film students dream. You could write your thesis on it, making many deep and astute connections. Camera angles, color saturation, tonality, etc... What was the symbolism of the amber tone in the first vignette? Why were the white curtains blowing in and out in the scene with the retired opera singer? And like that.

I loved this movie because, well...........I love New York. The city is the subject of this movie. It presents a kaleidoscope of changing scenery, background noise, and cultural aesthetics. It's diverse and majestic, dominant in its presence. A truly heroic background for the human drama unfolding within it, elevating the mundane and making the magical seem possible.

Maybe if they had taken one of the stories and developed it, which would have taken a lot more effort this would have been good watch as it was it was so disjoint that I could neer get into it. I am not a fan of the short story with no beginning and no end.

This movie is very beautifully put together and not for everyone to watch, each storyline has a tragedy that slowly morphs into a well thought out ending, this movie is ahead of its time and not easily enjoyed or appreciated by many people, but honestly i really liked it and recommend it if you just want to feel content while watching something that goes by rather quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb directing and acting

In a sort of sequel to Paris Je T’aime once again we are given a series of short films, each depicting love. For the most part the stories could be depicted in any location, so it is perhaps a case of “I love (Paris, New York, Rio) for letting me be in love here” rather than love of the city per se.

Whether the love stories of one particular city are better than another will be down to individual taste, but there is definitely a different feel to each of the sets of vignettes, and are, perhaps, different rather than better or not as good as the other films.

With New York I Love You, we are present once again with a series of stories, each with its own style and each by a different director and with different actors. The stories are not so much “I love New York” as “I love New York for allowing me to be in love here” and the stories for the most part could be set anywhere.

All of the stories are very well told and with great directing and superb acting – Eli Wallach and Chloris Leachman I thought were just brilliant!

I have my favourite stories and also my favourite from the “Cities Of Love” franchise and although clearly some people do not like these films at all, if you do like them, then like me you could well be viewing them numerous times as they are the kind of stories that multiple viewing doesn’t lessen their appeal.

On the DVD you get:

Main Feature (1 hour 43 minutes)
Scene Selection
Optional English Subtitles
Theatrical Trailer (1 min 50 seconds)

5.0 out of 5 stars very touching!! =)
