Disney’s The Lion King is getting a special The Lion King in Concert celebration at London’s Royal Albert Hall in July 2024.
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the acclaimed animated movie, The Lion King film – which was released in summer 1994, will be shown in concert at the Royal Albert Hall with a live orchestra and chorus.
Alongside the screenings of the animated movie, The Lion King stage show will also perform at the event.
In a special encore, the cast of the smash-hit West End musical will perform live, featuring the show’s spectacular costumes and puppets.
The Lion King in the West End recently celebrated its own milestone, having overtaken Cats to become the fifth longest running West End musical in history.
This October The Lion King marks another important milestone, having played for 25 years at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End.
At the Royal Albert Hall, the films will be accompanied live by the Chineke! Orchestra and the London Community Gospel Choir, conducted by Sarah Hicks.
The Lion King has songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, and a score by Hans Zimmer, and follows the powerful story of Simba as he journeys from a wide-eyed cub to his destined role as King of the Pridelands with glorious colours and enchanting music.
Matthew Todd, director of programming at the Royal Albert Hall, said in a statement: “The Lion King has been one of the most requested titles in the 15 years the Hall has presented ‘Films in Concert’. We’re delighted to host such a landmark anniversary event for what is one of the most iconic animated films ever made.”
The Lion King in Concert is playing at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 July 2024.
A new live-action prequel to The Lion King, Mufasa: The Lion King, is out in cinemas on 20 December 2024.
Disney’s The Lion King is now playing at the Lyceum Theatre in London, booking to 19 October 2024.
