Reviews
- Edited 3 months agoAs I continue to review artists that I love, I constantly have to debate things with myself...I am now questioning myself now though, only because I don't know why in the world it took me so long to get to the one and only "Mr. Billy Paul"!!!!!
Hailing straight out of "Philadelphia", "PA", "Billy", with his Jazzy influenced Vocals was a mainstay of the local Clubs around town....Finding his groove at the "Cadillac Club", located in "North Philly", "Billy" caught the eye of future "Hall of Famers", "Kenny Gamble" and "Leon Huff"...Evidently a bond was formed, but it was kinda interesting that the first album they would do together was the Live album, "Feelin' Good At The Cadillac Club" (released on the "Gamble" label)....
The only thing I could think of is, that the classic Producers wanted people to really hear "Billy" in his natural element (if that is the case, then this makes very much sense!!!!).....
Hearing "Billy" run through songs like, "Billy Boy", the Ultimate Crown Jewel "Bluesette", the "Bob Dylan" penned "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", and the classic "Feelin' Good", is very gratifying!!!!!
"Billy's" distinct style and range of Vocals just boggles the mind, and these songs helped proved that point...
I don't understand why there wasn't a picture of "Billy" on the album cover, because I have the 1973 version under "Philadelphia International Records"....Oh, well be that as it may, this album was just the beginning of one of the most interesting Vocalist ever!!!!!
Get ready guys!!!!!! - 2 killer uptempo jazz tracks - billy boy & bluestte.
i got this album on original vinyl from japan in 87 - never sell :-)
