SAN FRANCISCO -- It was a miracle for Eric Berry to be standing at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium the night before Super Bowl 50.
The Chiefs safety was named the 2015 Comeback Player of the Year after beating cancer.
Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in December 2014 but still managed to return to football. He fought cancer all offseason and won, returning to Chiefs practice in July and managing to play the entire season.
He played well and was rewarded with a trip to the Pro Bowl and now with the Comeback award.
Berry gave an emotional speech after receiving the award, tearing up while thanking his friends and family.
"There were some times where I felt like I couldn't do it anymore," Berry said. "There were a lot of rough times, rough nights, lonely nights."
He then singled out his father who also shaved his head when Berry lost his hair in the hospital.
"I love you. I love you. I love you," Berry said. "When I lost my hair, my pops shaved his hair too. I love you for that."
Berry's season is one of the truly great stories in all of football and he was appropriately recognized for it.
