      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey has the same stars -- and cheerfully wacky sense of humor -- as its predecessor, but they prove a far less effective combination the second time around.

Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer Once Bill and Ted get out of hell, though, their film loses it -- in more ways than one. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 29, 2016 Full Review John Hartl Seattle Times Reeves and Winter are clearly having a wonderful time. The enthusiasm is contagious. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 29, 2016 Full Review Michael Wilmington Los Angeles Times In almost every respect, Bogus Journey is better than the original: more imaginative, more opulent, wilder and freer, more excitingly visualized. Jul 29, 2016 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins With its greater resources, the film enjoys more sets, more props, and more computer animation - none of which increases the quality or the entertainment value. Rated: 4/10 Jan 2, 2022 Full Review Kevin A. Ranson MovieCrypt.com Having an actual bad guy changes the dynamic to something less fun and more serious... but the inclusion of Death as a wild card provides a new too-serious foil for Bill and Ted to happily torment. Rated: 3/4 Sep 1, 2020 Full Review Tim Brayton Alternate Ending An extraordinary grab bag of conceits and jokes, unified only in that Winters and Reeves treat everything with the same effortless merriment and slacker philosophy. Michael V I don’t get the hate for this movie at all. I love its humor and style. It’s the Bill and Ted movie I watch the most. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Colby B It was ok, the story was lacking in my opinion but the characters are too good to not keep you engaged. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Johnson C There was nearly no time travel. It was very disappointing. We liked the melvins. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Ian S This is probably the best in the franchise by adding death, little Bill, and little Ted and without this film Bill and ted face the music wouldn't be half as good and sure it doesn't have Bill and ted time traveling it is replaced with some of the best jokes in the trilogy. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/13/23 Full Review Evan G I thought Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey was just as good as the first one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/04/23 Full Review Timothy D Still insanely cheesy without losing too much charm, the second Bill and Ted has the same appeal as the first, except this time it goes to hell instead of the past.
