Officials: 63-year-old man drowns in Colorado River at Grand Canyon National Park

A man drowned while boating on the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park on Monday, according to national park officials.
Around 10 a.m. Monday, Grand Canyon National Park officials said they received an emergency alert from a "noncommercial river trip" near the Hance Rapid on the Colorado River.
The man, identified as 63-year-old James Crocker of Lakewood, Colorado, had fallen into the river at the top of Hance Rapid, Colorado River mile 77, park officials said.
Crocker was on the sixth day of a multiday private boating trip, officials said. Members of his boating group had pulled Crocker, who was unresponsive, out of the water and started CPR.
Park rangers arrived at the scene by helicopter and tried to resuscitate Crocker, but were unsuccessful.
An investigation into the incident was being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner, according to park officials.
No further information on the incident was available Tuesday morning, officials said.
