I love it that Han's first reaction is to start shooting at him, and then Vader just rips the gun out of his hand. It's the only confrontation between my two favorite characters in the OT and it encapsulates what's awesome about both of them.

I saw The Dark Knight in Minnesota. Minnesotans are a kind and gentle people. There was an audible gasp, one person screamed, and a handful left the theater moments after "Ta daaaaah..."
The rest of us strapped the fuck in, because we knew the movie was about to take us places.
That "strapping in" feeling was my favorite part about seeing that movie at the midnight showing. No one in the theater had any idea what was about to happen, and when it did... there was no little chatter or rustling or doing anything other than staying glued to the screen for the rest of the movie.

I went to see the movie in theaters and it was about 50/50 hardcore Godzilla fans and average movie goers looking for a summer blockbuster. I know it was 50/50 because the second this scene happened, exactly half the audience just continued to watch in standard awe and the other half of the audience (including me) got visibly hyped, like practically jumping out of our seats to cheer.
I was the same way. I still think the the most badass moment is when the MUTO sets of a chain reaction of exploding airplanes. Then everyone starts screaming at the monster and then Godzilla's foot comes into frame and everyone quiets down in awe.

Straight edge razor in Drive
The elevator scene really got me to go "Oh Shit!" It was really gentle and a slow scene, then he gives her that kiss, as in "this is might be my last kiss", then BOOM! It totally encompasses Love & Hate in a movie scene.
You ever notice when they're kissing the lighting makes it seem like Carrie Muligans character is brighter than Ryan Gosslings character...I think its to make it seem what the characters really symbolize...light and dark...and the scene shows what dark really is, and how light can't exist with it.
To be fair, when the violence started in that film my mind was blown... the pace just ramps up so quickly that you're kind of taken aback by it!
First half: dreamy romance movie. Second half: Ryan Gosling stomping heads in and drowning people. Holy Shit.
That drowning scene is terrifying. Imagine getting your car rammed off a cliff and then some guy with a creepy as fuck mask shows up to drown you.
The cool thing is I think he realized at a certain point that it was the driver, which scared him even more into running into the ocean.
The violence in Drive was so well done. In Only God Forgives it was painful and I had to look away from the screen most of the time. In Drive I felt like the violence had understandable meaning while in Only God Forgives there were scenes like the ending with Gosling and his mom (seriously WTF)

On a slightly lesser note, realizing that Carrie Ann-Moss was manipulating him and the panic I felt as Lenny scrambled for a pen also made me think Oh Shit.

Not a groundbreaking moment in the film, but in minority report with Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell are in the elevator as Tom Cruise is trying to get away. Colin pulls the drug inhaler out and talks of Tom going to jail. Tom pulls a gun and Colin confidently says, "I don't hear a red ball". At that moment the red ball alarm goes off. Colin is loading his drawers at that moment. One of my favorites.

Yeah, that was one of the "other" scenes I alluded to. That guy's performance, the "john" in the lust sequence, was bone-chilling. He only had maybe 20 seconds of screen time and look at how it affected you. Now THAT is some amazing acting.

That was the first movie I went to see by myself at the theaters and I had no idea what it was about. My parents wanted to see some romcom so I opted to see this instead being it showed at the same time.
The ending for that movie will always be the greatest twist and oh shit moment I've ever seen. It absolutely blew my mind when they did the big reveal and showed you how the entire movie he was dead and invisible to everyone but the boy.

Seriously the most terrifying scene for me in almost any movie. Waltz plays the most horrifyingly calm and reasonable character and the entire time, you're sitting there thinking "He knows. He knows. He knows he knows he knows OH NO HE KNOWS."
Props to the actor who played the farmer, you can see his face go from pants shitting terror, to sadness and regret all in that scene

Unimaginative answer, but the ending scene of Inception. It was the only time in a theatre that I actually had to say it out loud when the camera started zooming in and I realized where Nolan was going with this. When the credits started rolling I was awestruck and pissed off at the same time, a feeling I've never gotten from any other movie I've seen.
