Jimmy Rogers was one of the smoothest bluesmen out of all of the Muddy Water alumni. His voice is as smooth as silk and on this album he sings some new songs and some of his old stand bys such as Sloppy Drunk, St. Louis, and Chicago Bound. Even though I have heard these songs from other albums, these versions were done slightly different.
This album also has a bonus with an artist I had never listened to, "Big Moose" Walker. His singing and arrangements are fabulous as well.
Great album, two thumbs up.

This album is truly great! I bought the cassette for 6 dollars some years ago. When I finely wanted the CD, I was told this albums was a collectors album and costs $45.00 to me that is Highway Robbery for any music!!!

Not sure why I added this one to my large collection but it is now one of my favorites. My biggest regret is not getting to see him live before he died. Unlike some CDs where there is only one or 2 good songs this one has lots of great songs.

This is a great album in my opinion but I have to say that most of the reviews I've just read are not reviews of this record. The confusion stems from the fact there is another album with the same name. Most of the 13 reviews here already are references to that compilation of chess sides made by Jimmy Rogers in the 50s. This album was made in the 70s with some great session players.
The reviews of the chess album are all accurate forvthat record, which is one of the all time great albums.

Jimmy Rogers was an important member of Muddy Waters band in its greatest year, but he was also a solo artist of the first rank.
Backed usually by the other members of the Waters band, he cut some tremendous sides for Chess, including at least one R & B hit (WALKIN' BY MYSELF).
His vocals shine on SLOPPY DRUNK, an update of Sonny Boy I's hit, and CHICAGO BOUND, the title tune, has not only great lyrics and a superb vocal, there are solos by the whole band.
Truly outstanding is Walter Horton's harp solo on WALKIN' BY MYSELF. Jim O'Neal rightly called this one of Horton's two greatest solos, the other being on Johnny Shines' EVENING SUN. Bizarrely enough, Good Rockin' Charles was scheduled to be the harp player on the Rogers' session, but he didn't turn up and Shakey Walter got to lay down this tough and titanic track.
Rogers would have been a big star on his own, but he preferred to stick with Muddy in the golden years. However, check out in particular MONEY, MARBLES, AND CHALK, another fantastic side with Little Walter on guitar and Eddie Ware on piano. An oddball vocal that captures the true spirit of the 1950s Chicago blues.

I wanted to buy the mp3 download for this album, so I clicked mp3. This took me to the page for an album with a different cover, also starring Jimmy Rogers and named "Chicago Bound." Thinking this was just another version of the same album, I purchased and downloaded it. Later, I realized that the songs I downloaded were not the same as what is listed on the album, and I don't think the musicians are the same either. I was misled by Amazon when I purchased the mp3 download.
