It was a positive experience where they took a chance on a person who was not a bartender. I like to believe it was mutually beneficial.
Bartender (Former Employee) - Lakewood Ranch, FL - April 24, 2024
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhat is the best part of working at the company? I had a good time working at the Lodge. I was treated well as a bartender and with respect by the leaders in the lodge. I would love to say all my customer’s members loved me but in the real world sometimes not everyone is going to like you they were all very friendly and respectful. . I made good money on the busy days. I enjoyed the slow days. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Busy nights were stressful but time flew bye when two bartenders were serving a couple hundred people. Our shifts were 12 to 13 hours and sometimes we covered two, three or more shifts in a row but the money was good. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? One of the better cultures I have been a part of. Customers and leaders really did care about their bartenders. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I would get to the lodge at about 1030 to make sure the bar was fully stocked and the food prep area was ready. Some days no food prep staff was available so the bartender was responsible for that.

The birthday parties and basically working 4 hours for $20 What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Welcoming but it can be cliquey What is a typical day like for you at the company? Pouring drinks, stocking, keno and other lotteries. Cleaning at the end of the night

When you think elks Lodge I guarantee you weren't picturing something like this!
Bartender/Server/Event Staff (Former Employee) - Santa Ana, CA - January 7, 2024
Typical work days varied because the events and activities were constantly changing. I had a pretty extensive background in Hospitality coming into this place, so it was an easy transition. The management is fantastic. The culture is positive and fun. It was a tight ship, and everyone pulled their weight. The most enjoyable part of the job is a tough one because everything about this job was legit, however the good here was exceptionally sublime. Clean. Upscale. Classy. Positive.
Pros
Culture, Positivity, Employee meals for event staff, and the regular staff employee discount on food was pretty good too.
Cons
If there were any they went unnoticed

Fun Environment, Management is lacking.
Bartender (Current Employee) - Carlsbad, NM - November 14, 2023
It's hard to know or understand the hierarchy because officers and Exalted Ruler change every year. Communication between management and low rank employees is not great. Members are mostly good, and overall safer feeling than many bar environments. Pay could be better, and raises aren't given frequently.

Very stressful
Bartender (Former Employee) - Sacramento, CA - March 22, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The polite long time patrons. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Most of the people in charge are volunteers that are indulging while making the decisions. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Very stressful and toxic due to they go by their own rules believing it's alright because they are a private non-profit organization. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Good most days always came in with a smile, never knew what was going to transpire after the officers came back from one of the numerous meetings after their happy hour.

Bartender (Former Employee) - Lake Havasu City, AZ - February 17, 2023
Busy, busy bar but you make really good money. Just steer clear of the lodge politics and don't get sucked into the rumors and drama. I would work there again.
Pros
Free meal
Cons
Hard to get a different day off.

Good place to work.
Bartender (Former Employee) - Parsons, TN - June 27, 2022
They pay is good. You don’t have to deal fights and stuff. It’s a nice place. It’s a bar so you get your occasional attitude and smart mouth. You take the good with the bad. You may have a slow night. That’s always a possibility. The hourly pay is better then most tho.
Pros
Good hourly pay, tips, private bar
Cons
Making bar food

Laid back work environment
Bartender/Server (Former Employee) - Reidsville, NC - June 23, 2022
Small members bar with grill. You will cook (mostly on weekends) so be aware and you will hear the same stories until you can recite them yourself but a fine place to work if you want something a little slower than a large chain bar/restaurant

Great people, great money
Bartender (Current Employee) - Clinton, MO - May 4, 2022
I love my job. They are very flexible and considerate. They pay well, and the members tip well. There are always events going on, so I am able to pick up extra shifts as well. The members are great guys and do a lot for the community. I am proud to be a part of the Elks Lodge.
Pros
Pay+Tips People I serve and work for
Cons
No closing time so I never know when I am going to be done working.

A great way to know your community.
Bartender (Current Employee) - Eveleth, MN - February 18, 2022
The elks club has a long standing in American history, It’s been supporting communities, veterans and the youth as a 501c3 company. A true non profit organization that has not lost sight of its goal.
Pros
A great place to pick up a few skills.

Used to be a great place to work.
Bartender (Former Employee) - Winston-Salem, NC - January 29, 2022
Whoever has changed the entire structure of the Elks Lodge made a huge mistake! How's anyone supposed to make any money is you're ALL THE TIME way overstaffed? As long as you have competent people there should be no issue with only one bartender!!!!!
Pros
Cheap drinks
Cons
No money, management is terrible, no one defined as your boss. Everyone thinks they're your boss at the lodge.

Money
Bartender/Waitress (Former Employee) - Springfield, IL - May 15, 2021
The Elks is a very cliquey Club. They talk about each other and they will talk about you behind your back. Don't trust no one. There are some good people there but watch your back.
Pros
You make good money
Cons
The people are snobs

Too Many Chiefs
Server/Bartender (Former Employee) - Coldwater, MI - February 1, 2021
This was a beautiful restaurant and Lodge. It was great meeting all these people. Sometimes I just felt like maid and other times we were friends. My boss was a server with no Management Training. There was a lot of confusion and no organization. But I Did my best.
Pros
Wages Plus TIPs
Cons
Not many hours
