I hosted a party of four here last week for dinner and it was scrumptious in every way. Three of our four head dying together many times and we had one newcomer who chose the wine...a 2006 Brunello that was outstanding. So good, we had...2 bottles. We shared 2 appys and had steak and lamb for entrees. I had the barbicoa- style wagyu short ribs. OMG. The sauce on the ribs was a little sweet for my taste, but when accompanied with the jalapeño slaw...PERFECT. All of us would come back. As a matter of fact, three of us are going to go back and try the $150 100 day dry-aged tomahawk ribeye. Can’t wait.More

A Houston icon, an absolute must while visiting. My wife and I were expecting good food based on reviews, price, location, and local recommendations. We were surprised at how good it was still, it was amazing! The menu rotates based on fresh ingredient availability, our...dishes were fresh and expertly presented. It is seen as a steakhouse in the eyes of most, but I got a salad and kale for appetizers and they were beyond delicious. The fish and pork shoulder dishes we ordered were perfectly seasoned and cooked just the way we like. Would go back every weekend if I could!More

We ordered the Baller Board as we wanted a surprise sampling. The long bone ribeye was cooked rare and was excellent. Crab legs and claws were also excellent. The snapper was okay. The Wagyu was okay and started to grow on us, though the ribeye...was much better. The sides of pureed potatoes, Lamburger helper and creamy collared greens were disappointing considering the ribeye and crab were so good. The smashed n fried new taters were also very good. The service was a bit slow, though once we ordered the Baller Board things improved. We were stuffed so we had to pass on the apple pie. I tried the banana pie which was disappointing. Our bill was just over $500 with only 1 alcoholic drink. The portions on the Baller Board will work for a group of 4. Our group of 3 put a good sent in the meal, though there was a decent sized take home bag.More

This was our second time to Georgia James, and sadly will likely be our last. We had the meatballs, Farmers Cut salad, Snapper and dessert. Dessert was the best part and it was pretty good. I will say we had the crab legs our first...visit and they were amazing. The snapper was so salty I couldn’t finish it. Very very overpriced for what we had and for the service, which was just OK since our waiter seemed quite aloof- maybe it was just his personality, idk. Cocktail menu is great and features some wonderful in house cocktails as well as a fairly extensive classic cocktail menu. Sadly, the classic cocktail we ordered was unavailable since the bar did not have all the ingredients.... so much for the great classic cocktail menu.... I hate we had a sub par experience as I was really looking forward to our dinner, and I feel like we may have just had a miss on this particular night... may be best to stick with the steak at Georgia James (and crab legs)More

We had excellent cocktails at the bar. I asked to be seated in the smaller dining area which is glass enclosed because the main dining room was packed and very loud. The waiter was slow getting to our table and overall very busy with other...tables. The steak options did not include a filet or tenderloin so I chose not to eat beef despite this being a steakhouse was also informed because of Lent the butcher's choice was also fish. I had french onion soup and slab wedge salad both excellent. My spouse had the octopus salad and fish special which were both also excellent. We had their white wines by the glass which were also very good. We did not try the desserts despite great choices.More

I was in town from Southern California with my wife for the Houston Marathon. I always reward myself with a good steak dinner after running 26.2 miles. When out of town, we always look for one of the local places for our dining experience. Georgia...James was truly outstanding. Service: Our waiter Alex (and his support staff) was superb. He was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He was able to guide us in our selections (see below) based on our conversation with him. It was a very personalized experience. The restaurant sommelier Carl was also very personable and knowledgeable and helped us make the right choice in wine pairing. Food: My wife had the Wagyu Zabuton and I had the Ribeye (we shared). Both steaks were prepared to perfection and were delicious. The sides are served family style. We had the Fried Brussels Sprouts (really good) and the Smashed & Fried New Potatoes (over the top amazing and a must have if you dine there). Dessert for us was the Roasted Banana Pie (perfect finisher) with coffee. In summary, the food and service at G J was amazing and a great find. It was a wonderful post-marathon dinner experience. Should we ever travel to Houston in the future for whatever reason, we will surely dine there again (at their new location apparently).More

Just had an absolutely amazing birthday dinner for my celeb client Georgia James and it was worth every penny. From easy booking system, the amazing staff and the kind and courteous service of the GM, Jeff, this could not have been a better night. The...food was absolutely AMAZING, with a highly curated menu that left everyone stating they would be back for more soon. As a first time patron, I am definitely heading back as soon as possible, the ONLY steakhouse in Houston where you will see me! Thank You, Georgia James!More

We ordered the baller board. It's off menu. It had most of what they offer. There were no oysters, which was fine. Everything was great except the steaks. They were cooked correctly, but bland. Just horrible. Kicker was they where the most expensive items on...the board and barely got eaten. The inside is nice and the drinks were good. The price of the food was over priced, but that could be due to all the aftermath of the pandemic. I am giving 3 stars, because I was not impressed with the streaks at all.More

Thank you reading my review. We all have different tastes, budgets and expectations. So, my review is based on my expectation for the price of the food and drinks at Georgia James. To say the least, I am very disappointed. Quality of steak was poor,...however it was cooked perfectly. Sides and drinks were fine but overpriced for the quality and preparation. Restaurant is clean. Atmosphere is mediocre for the high-end restaurant they are pretending to be. Service is also mediocre. Basically, this place feels like white cloth Saltgrass with inferior service. With so many choices of steakhouse I will avoid this place in the future. Dinner for 2 with 3 drinks, 2 steaks, 1 salad and 3 sides + tax and tip - $310  More

We had a very nice celebration dinner at Georgina James Steak on Dallas Street. If going - be sure to look up the most recent location on Dallas and not let Yelp or Trip Advisor take you to the old predecessor location for Georgina James...Tavern. Calling ahead or booking a reservation on open table is suggested. Our table ordered several different steak cuts (Wagyu, filet, etc) and all were prepared to perfection and tasted great. My wife had a pork chop which was also excellent. For sides we had the Brussels sprouts and sautéed mushrooms and they were great. We shared a pecan pie and chocolate layer cake for desert. If you plan to drink wine it could be useful to review the wine list online ahead of time. The choices and price range was incredibly extensive (like the old Sears Catalog (dating myself) or Cheesecake Factory Menu). There is also a sommelier upon request and he was insightful. We used the valet parking which was fine. It seemed that attire ranged from casual, to business/smart casual to dressy. In general, anything tasteful should be fine to wear. In summary, very good meal and service. Nice setting for a date or celebration. May be tough for a business diner since the background music may be a little much - but a conversation is possible.More

Very disappointed in our meal here. We actually woke up the next morning still upset about how much we paid for food we could not eat. I do not think the ambiance is anything special. I was surprised that the woman who checked us in...looked like she was wearing a scrub top. Not what we expected as we looked ahead at the menu and knew that we were going to be spending $$. The bottom line is the food is not good enough for this price point. It is like they are trying to be so different and are "over spicing" the food to make them so "unique" from everyone else. The sides are considered family style and yet our corn dish came in a tiny skillet. I would not say it was enough for the 4 people at the table. However, there was plenty because no one could eat it!! I am not sure how you can screw up corn so bad, but they did. My husband had the Wagyu which was not a great cut of meat. We have had meat from the RC ranch they purchase from, this was not a comparable cut. The bar is underwhelming, including the terrible pour for my $19 glass of wine. We tried so hard to find one course of the meal that was enjoyable. I guess we would say the best part was the bone marrow as an appetizer. We all finished our bone. We did feel like we had good service. We have been to so many amazing steak houses. We would not return to this one.More

Texas NY Strip steak stood out with its rich flavor and perfect cooking, but the sides and desserts, including collard greens, smashed potatoes, onion rings, and banana pudding, were just average. The ambiance was clean yet lacked character. The service was notably slow, with a...lack of attentiveness to our table, detracting from the dining experience. Combined with the high prices, these factors left me with little desire to return. I would not recommend this place. Unfortunately they lost the feel of the original location. This is sad as I have been looking forward to this for some time.More

Decided to have dinner here to celebrate my husband and I 9th Year Anniversary. This is a steak restaurant that is farm to table with portions that are big enough to share. This was my husband’s second time dining here and this my first. His...first time dinning, him and his party ordered a board and he stated they enjoyed everything on the board. The food and wine was very good. We ordered a bottle of the Corazon Del Sol ‘Los Chacayes’ Malbec, The Slab Salad, Classic French Onion Soup, Fried Holmes Chicken, Fried Brussel Sprouts, Smashed & Fried New Potatoes. And for dessert we decided on the carrot cake. The service provided by our waiter Alec and the restaurant was wonderful.More

I came here for a group business meeting. The menu was set with a choice of 3 entrees, fried chicken, fish or steak. Once we were seated upstairs, the servers were not attentive. They stood around as if they didn’t know what to do. Eventually...they started taking our orders. The service was extremely slow and inattentive. Our meeting and program occurred before we were ever served our salad. Tea was served without offering any sweeteners. There was no salt or pepper in the table either. Caesar salad - lettuce was fresh. The salad was bland no hint of dressing at all. Stip steak with mashed potatoes and creamed greens- served ice cold. The steak had good flavor but served ice cold. It was also a poor cut as it was 2/3 gristle. The side were also ice cold and bland. Chocolate cake was fair, nothing special. All of the meals at our table were served cold. I will not be back. If I want a high end restaurant, I will go to Brennans, Vic & Anthony’s, or Ruth Chris. Don’t waste your time or money.More

Entered into glass doors to a team of warm smiles. We started with a nice cab that we selected off of a very extensive list. Wine lovers you will not be disappointed. The Cesar salad and the slab (aka the wedge) were remarkably fresh. Steaks...were served perfectly but the fried chicken was out of this world as strange as that sounds . You should also savor the smashed and fried potatoes. Service was on point.More

It varies. I wore jeans and a golf shirt. Others in our group wore dresses and the men wore jeans and button down shirts. Mostly business casual though a few other guests dressed to the 9's.
