What fun album in a non-traditionalist jazz vein. Seriously this has that sort of GRP sound (no wonder this is Dave Grusins brother!). Lots of cool 80s drum machines replete with claps, sax interludes and keyboard hooks. Its a very lively album to listen to when you want to perk up your day and a sort of shameless example that you dont have to listen to acoustic jazz trio albums or the over the top mad-capped ravings of say Mahavishnu Orchestra and still be an aficionado of the jazz genre.
Theres a track or 2 with vocals nothing to nerve wrackingly annoying but something cool and again reminds me almost of Michael Sambello meets Fletch! As a note Julie Ann sounds very much like a ballad Toto could have written in the early 1980's and its a gem of a track(not sure who the vocalist is but his voice fit the mood to a T).
If you like that classic early 1980's electronics meets "pop" jazz this might float your proverbial boat into the sunset. referencing 10K-LA (LP, Album, Stereo) VIJ-28033
