The Cottage never disappoints! Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive and the food was delicious! A new personal favorite - the Buffalo chicken dip!! The highlight of my night though was enjoying a glass of wine overlooking the beautiful Mirror Lake and the snow capped mountains in the background!

Wonderful lunch at the Cottage Cafe. The nachos and buffalo dip were amazing! The views of the lake and mountains are simply gorgeous. What a great place for an afternoon lunch.

We came for lunch. The hostess was very accommodating and gave us a great table. Our waitress was good, food and drinks were good and ambience was fun. We really enjoyed ourselves.

The Cottage Cafe is located at The Cottage at Mirror Lake Inn which is a small cozy restaurant on the water. We were seated inside at a cozy corner right next to the water on this rainy evening but there is outdoor seating as well. There is a limited menu but meal was delicious and the service was excellent. They have an extensive wine and beer selection as well. Prices are very reasonable and I would recommend this place for a tasty meal or drink. There is also a bar inside for seating.

Stopped in to have a drink and possibly dessert. Was told the tables were only for dinner guests. But we could go to the bar for a drink and possibly dessert. It was beautiful out so we really wanted to sit outside. Was told by the bartender only drinks out under the tented patio. So we just got drinks. Which were mediocre at best. The patio wasn’t great. Folded up table propped up blocking the view of the lake. Dirty glasses everywhere. Will not return.

Located right on the lakeshore, our patio space is extremely popular and typically very well received by our guests. In fact, many guests specifically request to be seated on the patio. That being said, I’m sorry that there was a table out of place and if there was glassware that was not cleared promptly. That should not have happened. Please know that we appreciate your feedback and have addressed your concerns so that others are not disappointed as you were.

I can’t decide what I loved more about our lunch at the Cottage - the beautiful view from our outdoor table just feet away from the lake or the delicious Brussel Sprout salad! The Cottage is an A+ all around, delicious food, friendly and attentive service and the best views of Mirror Lake in all of Lake Placid!

Something for everyone. I like to order something different; my family likes tried and true. All was prepared and presented well. Service was fine. A bit crowded but not overly noisy. Such a pretty spot.

We were persuaded by many of the good reviews of this place as well as the view. The food and services was average at best, though (cue a response from the manager of the Inn who is active on here and will no doubt respond saying they produce top quality meals, blah, blah, blah). The visit was average because our server wasn't knowledgeable about drink orders for martinis or what dishes had gluten in them. Our spinach and artichoke dip lacked flavour (I've had better from a container at the grocery store) and for both of our entrees, the side accompanying them was a pile of potato chips - which we didn't finish. The island pulled pork sandwich was tasty but it was way too saucy (dripped all over). I realize that the quarters and kitchen are small, but improving the sides would help justify a bit more value for your money. We ate better elsewhere during our stay in Lake Placid. Go for the view, not for the service or sides.

As noted in your review, we as management are active on TripAdvisor. We feel strongly it is important to respond to guest reviews and that doing so, shows our patrons that we genuinely care about their experience. I’m sorry you perceive that as “blah, blah, blah”. I apologize if your server was not as knowledgeable as you would have liked about martinis. I trust that they offered to get an answer to your question. As for the gluten inquiry, we instruct our waitstaff to never guess or speculate when it comes to food allergies or intolerances. They are expected to inquire directly with the kitchen whenever they are unsure. This is for the safety and comfort of our guests. I think most guests with special dietary needs appreciate that.
With respect to sides, while kettle chips are the standard side, we do offer multiple sides on the menu. We’re sorry if you didn’t see them.

Was in Lake Placid for the Iron Man race. The Cottage had good reviews on TripAdvisor, so we made the walk to the end of the road. The walk was so worth it. Everything from the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer to the salads to the cocktails were simply fabulous. And the view! Stunning! Michelle was our waitress and was so friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend!

This is one of many examples of the bizarrely mediocre restaurant scene in Lake Placid. What the area boasts in stunning beauty and charm it completely lacks in quality of food. In a small town with very little competition, I imagine they see the tourists with limited options to whom they can serve miserable food. It seems like they aren’t even trying. After all, most guests are too distracted by the gorgeous lake view from the Cottage’s patio to care.
I’ve had a lot of charcuterie boards around the world, but this is easily the worst. Uninspired discount meats and cheeses likely obtained from some mediocre grocery store are served with sad crackers at an exorbitant price. The one redeeming characteristic at the Cottage is that some members of our party had very good salads.
Several of us had sandwiches featuring a decent pesto (possibly house-made) on a okay bun, but with an atrociously overcooked, chewy chicken breast hardened by a nearly inedible crust. It was unbearable. And even though lemon pepper aioli was not mentioned in the menu description, I’m pretty sure the sandwich had a gallon of low quality mayo on it, which made it even harder to eat. This is not a place to dine while visiting Lake Placid unless you’re only doing salads.

As one of the most popular restaurants in Lake Placid, we receive many great comments about the quality of our food and service, both from the many visitors to the area and from our many loyal local patrons as well. We take great pride in making things right and satisfying our customers, which is why we were as busy as we were. Based on the tone of your review and the many absolute and exaggerated statements contained within, I’m not sure we would have been capable of satisfying you. That said, we certainly would have tried our best. Had you let your server know if there was something that wasn’t to your liking, we would have been happy to offer you something else that would have allowed you to leave happy with your experience. You opted instead to say nothing while you were here and then go online and write a snarky review. That is unfortunate.

If I could leave zero stars I would. To put it in perspective for you, I paid $28 for a salad with shrimp. My salad at Chick-fil-A was larger and more appealing. I was handed a side salad with four shrimp. No joke.
For the price, the portions and quality are not there. $78 and we ended up going for a second dinner: Save your money and go elsewhere.

We were surprised to read your review about the Thai Panzanella Salad with shrimp not meeting your expectations. We have received many positive comments and reviews about our food, ambiance, views, and the service by our staff. We pride ourselves in quality and friendly customer service and if you had let your server know while you were here they would have offered to get you something else. Then again, being a Chick-fil-A aficionado it’s no surprise that you didn’t like The Cottage and opted to write a malicious review.

Chipotle Caesar salad caught my eye in looking at takeout options for the evening, so took a chance, and was glad I did. Salad was as tasty as it sounded, and nicely proportioned - split with partner as accompanyment to main pasta course from another restaurant. Bonus points for honoring request for bleu cheese on the side, and for providing real utensils (which we returned, as we were staying at the adjoining inn)

The Cottage is a small restaurant with a limited menu but the location is superb. You can dine indoors or out even in winter. The food is delicious but my husband wanted bigger portions. Heavier menu items such as burgers are not available. The bar is well stocked with a good wine selection. All staff was friendly and professional.

We sat right by the window and enjoyed warm Brussels Sprouts salads with chicken. It was marvelous! Reminded me of a ski lodge. My only piece of advice: the steak knife was unnecessary for the salad because the chicken was so tender.
