Conti was the captain of the 1949 squad that won U-D’s first Missouri Valley Conference championship. He was named a United Press Honorable Mention All-American in 1948. At 6’1 and 300 pounds, he played both offense and defense and was also the biggest man in college football. He led the Red and White offensive line that opened up holes for a school record 547 yards rushing against Duquesne in 1949. He was considered a lethal pass rusher and later became U-D’s freshman line coach in 1949 and 1950. He was a recipient of the U-D Alumnus Award and Athletic Director’s Ring Award.
