Green Arrow: Year One is an 2019 Film directed by David Fincher and produced by Geoff Johns. The Film stars Charlie Hunnam, Yvonne Strahovski, Lain Glen, Zoe Kravitz and Keanu Reeves. The Film is the 5th Film of the second Phase of the DCCU. The Film grossed $678,000,000 worldwide and is rated at 86% at Rotten Tomatoes.

Plot[]
The Film starts in a a flashback to Star City. The Young Oliver Queen is a billionaire playboy orphan who lost his parents when he was with them on a zoo. Oliver was raised by his uncle and is an irresponsible playboy billionaire. Oliver is on a party at his Mansion where he is making out with a model. Oliver walk down where he sees his bodyguard Hackett who tells him that the board of directors of "Queen Industries" wants him to sign papers for a multi-billion deal with LexCorp. Oliver drops the papers and goes to party with some other women. Oliver then sees Malcolm Merlyn, a mysterious businessman who takes Oliver to the outside and starts to talk with him about his actions.
Oliver feels a connection to Merlyn and tells him about his past and that this parties are diverting his feelings. Oliver then drinks vodka and returns to the Party while Merlyn is looking at him with a mysterious look.
Oliver wakes up in his bed. His clothes are dirty from vodka and he is on an hang-over.
At the present, Oliver Queen is on a deserted island, with a long hair and beard. Oliver is escaping from hunters and use a bow and arrow in order to dominate and kill them. Oliver then sees a boat of Chinese people. Oliver uses a fire and arrow and manages to catch their attention.
Fast Forward to Star City. Multiple reports tries to interview Oliver after he was revealed to be alive. Queen get into a Queen Industries' limo and is taken to his mansion where he is greeted by his friend Tyler Thompson. Oliver is barley talking and says to John that he feels like another person.
Tyler is leaving while Oliver is looking at pictures of his parents.
Flashback. Oliver Queen is leaving a meeting of Queen Industries and is walking alongside Tyler while Hackett is keeping at the back. Oliver declares that he will go to a trip on a boat and Thompson tells him that this is a bad idea and Oliver ignores him.
At the boat, Oliver is drinking and then sees far away Werner Vertigo, a former employee on Queen Industries that Oliver fired. Hackett arrives behind Oliver's back and hits him, while Werner Vertigo is sending a wave which drugs Oliver. Oliver falls to the water while Hackett and Werner are calling to their boss and tells him that the Mission Done.
Oliver finds himself in the sea, and eventually manages to save himself. He arrives on a deserted island and is about to die.
At the present, Oliver meets his good friend Arisa who raised him alongside his uncle. Oliver talks to Arisa and tells her that he is not the boy he was.
Oliver gets into his rolls Royce and drives to the Queen-Tower. Oliver enters into the CEO-Office, where he sees Merlyn. Oliver gets a flashback to his conversation with Merlyn at the night before his trip, and Merlyn says to him that he was placed in charge of Queen Industries. Oliver seems to be confused and as he leaves Merlyn is shows sending a message to Werner Vertigo.
Oliver goes to the glades, where he sees an abandoned Queen Industries building. He breaks into it and starts to establish it. He uses a bow and arrow and perfect his skills. Then, Oliver is shown wearing a green-hood. Oliver puts a mask on his face.
Oliver is shown standing on a rooftop is watching group of thugs. He jumps and battles them, he shots and arrow dominating them all.
Meanwhile, the Police Officer Larry Lance is texting his daughter Dinah and then gets a message about the new vigilante. Larry is shocked and quickly drives to the crime scene. Dinah, who spied on Larry, arrives there as well and seems to be satisfied. Larry sees there a Green Arrow, and understands that a new outlaw started to operate.
Meanwhile, Oliver Queen returns to the building and discovers that Tyler messaged him. Oliver ignores the message.
Oliver gets a Flashback. he was at the island for nearly 3 Months, he is learning to survive and started to develop surviving skills. He swears that he will return to his home and avenge against Hackett and Werner Vertigo.
At the present, Oliver Queen arrives in a party of Queen Industries. Tyler is waiting there for him and asks him why he didn't replay to his message. Oliver tells him that he should have handle something important and Tyler is confused.
Oliver then faces a seduce attempt for a mysterious woman. He leaves and sees there Merlyn again. Merlyn tells Oliver that he knows that he changed and Oliver is not replying. Merlyn gives Oliver papers of Queen Industries and Oliver walks back to the party and seems to be confused. Then, the party gets crashed when Oliver feels that he was drugged. He feels the same feeling he felt when Vertigo drugged him when he was at his boat.
Oliver gets a flashback. He meets a woman named Shado and develops a friendship with her. Shado is revealed to be a master martial artist and a great archer. She starts to train Oliver and Oliver tells her about his past as a playboy. Shado tells him that she doesn't care and sees the good in him. Oliver then knocks her at the floor and shares an intimate moment with her.
At the present, Diana Lance starts to be interested on Green Arrow. She arrives in a party at Oliver Queen arranged by Tyler. Oliver takes Diana to the outside and they seems to share a good chemistry and Oliver develops feeling for her. Then, the party is attacked by Count Vertigo who wants Oliver Queen dead.
Oliver arrives there as Green Arrow and Vertigo seems to be surprised. Oliver defeats him but gets drugged, he leaves and transforms into Oliver Queen before anyone would suspect that he is connected to the Outlaw.
Oliver arrives at Merlyn's Office and Merlyn tells him that he won't be able to sign control on Queen Industries if the board of directors would not accept him because he did a lot of damage to the corp before his absence. Oliver leaves and gets attacked by assassins, then he hears a massive scream which kill the Assassins. Oliver then sees Diana on a black suit. She tells him that he got some gifts as well, Oliver is surprised and horrified.
Oliver returns to his cave at the glades, where he opens a file about Werner Vertigo. At a flashback, Oliver is on a romance with Shado. Both Queen and Shado gets drugged. When he wakes up, he finds himself on a prison and sees there a woman named China White, who explains that they will do on them experiments before killing them.
At the present, Vertigo arrives in a secret place. He then meets Merlyn and tells him that he failed to kill Oliver Queen. Merlyn then tells him that Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow and that he will do the job by himself. Vertigo then leaves.
Oliver is taken to his Manor by Diana and she tells him that he is operating as the outlaw Black Canary. Then, he kisses her and Diana does this as well. They are kissing again and making love.
Oliver wakes up at his bed and sees that Diana is gone. When Oliver goes downstairs, he sees that Tyler is waiting for him. Tyler is mad at Oliver and tries to understand whats going on with him. Oliver ignores and Tyler leaves.
Oliver arrives on a meeting by Queen Industries. Oliver then finds out that a crime is happening on the glades, Oliver leaves and battles the criminals. As he leaves, he gets drugged by the Vertigo Drug, Oliver arrives ind Dinah's apartment and she manages to save him.
Oliver leaves her apartment and starts to jump from buildings as Green Arrow. Then, he gets attacked by an archer who is better then him and wears dark clothes. Oliver loses the battle and is again saved by Black Canary.
Oliver feels broken and understands that this the Dark Archer that he heard of when he was at the Island. He explains to the Canary that he adored the Dark Archer and wanted to be better then him, and now the Dark Archer is challenging him to prove that he is better.
Dark Archer arrives and meet Vertigo on few of his employees. He removes his mask and is revealed to be Merlyn, who tells them to Oliver Queen is going to be broke.
At a flashback, Oliver and Shado manages to escape from China White's prison after dominating her guards and running towards the forest, Oliver then sees that White made a trap for him, he manages to escape but China White and her henchmen manages to capture Shado.
Shado tells Oliver to go, but he refuses. He uses a bow and arrow and launches an Arrow right into China White's eye. China White dies, but not before she stabs Shado at the chest. Oliver and Shado screams, and China White is laughing. She calls her "boss", and tells him that the Mission is nearly complete. Merlyn is then shown sitting at the CEO chair of Queen Industries, he closes the phone and shown holding a bottle of China White's drug.
At the present, Oliver manage to recover from the injuries and returns to operate as Green Arrow. After some investigation, he starts to suspect on Metrlyn being connected to the Dark Archer.
Green Arrow breaks into Merlyn's Office, he attacks him and Merlyn says "Hello Oliver". Green Arrow is shocked. Merlyn runs to his secret room at the other side of the CEO Office. He dons the Dark Archer suit.
The two start to battle a long battle across Star City. Merlyn reveals to Oliver that he was behind his accident, including Hackett and China White. Ever since his parents' death, Merlyn watched Oliver and closely planned how to sabotage his boat and get him killed in order to take over his Company and take over the City.
Oliver is shocked and discovers Merlyn's purpose: Release the Vertigo drug, rise as the City's hero and manipulate the laws behind the scenes taking over the City.
Then, Black Canary arrives. She uses her scream powers, allowing Oliver to take Advantage of the battle and kill Merlyn and destroy his drug.
Next morning, Oliver reveals to the City about Merlyn's intentions. He is shown entering into the Queen Industries' Office and sign the papers which gave him back his control at the Corporation.
At the night, Oliver, as Green Arrow, meets Dinah who is at her Canary suit. He kisses her and they jumps to save the day.
Post Credit scene 1: Tyler Thompson is showing waking up on his bed at his penthouse. He then holds a letter from Merlyn. Tyler seems to be surprised and opens it. He is shocked.
Post Credit scene 2: Oliver at his Mansion is watching a speech of Maxwell Lord. He closes the TV. Then, he is getting a file from a mysterious shocked. He starts to understand that its possible that China White might be alive.

Background and Production[]
The plans to produce a Green Arrow Film started during 2008 with the shelved Green Arrow: Escape from Super-Max. David S. Goyer did not give up on the idea to produce a Green Arrow Film and pitched another script based on Andy Diggle's "Green Arrow: Year One" starring Charlie Hunnam as Oliver Queen. After Goyer was informed that WB started to produce a Cinematic Universe which would be launched with the release of Batman: Year One, Goyer as well cancelled the idea and the Movie was shelved.
After the massive success of the DCCU's Phase 1 and Phase 2, Goyer decided to re-launch his Green Arrow idea and this time took elements from the TV Series "Arrow" as well as elements from "Green Arrow: Year One" and added his own ideas such as the story of Merlyn and how he arranged Oliver Queen's accident.
Warner Brothers liked the idea, allowed Goyer to move forward with the Movie and agreed to feature it as a Movie of the DCCU's Phase 2. Charlie Hunnam was the first and only choice of the producers and he said that he is a fan of the character and liked the script and idea. Hunnam agreed to play the role of Oliver Queen right away and said that he always wanted to play the role.
Yvone Strahovski was selected to play Black Canary after the the Producers chose her over actresses like Katheryn Winnick. For the role of Merlyn, Keanu Reeves as well was their first and only choice. After he looked at the script, he agreed to play the role and described his character as "A guy you wouldn't want to mess with". Lain Glen and Zoe Kravitz were announced for the roles of Werner Vertigo and China White respectively. Geoff Johns also announced that David Fincher, the director who directed the Batman Movie series, would direct the Movie and might direct a new Green Arrow trilogy which would set at the DCCU.
Geoff Johns compared the script to the Godfather II, as both Movies featured flashbacks and "A story within Story". WB created a website for the Movie and leaked the first trailer as well as Oliver Queen and Merlyn's suits.
Release and Box Office[]
"Green Arrow: Year One" was a huge success across the World and the US. During its first week, the Movie grossed $47,000,000 and ranked at the 9th place at the Box Office, which was very low compared to the Batman and Superman Films. However, during the second week, the Movie grossed $110,000,000 and immediately reached to the Top 5. Overall "Green Arrow: Year One grossed $230,000,000 at the US and $678,000,000 across the World.
The Film got good reviews from critics and fans. Many fans liked Charlie Hunnam's performance and called it "Green Arrow straight out of the Comics" and even said he is better then the CW Green Arrow's actor, Stephen Amell. The Film was also praised due to its story line and new elements such as Keanu Reeves' Merlyn and Glen's Vertigo. Fans also liked how the Film was accurate to the Green Arrow comics while also featuring aspects from "Arrow". The Film got 86% at Rotten Tomatoes.
