This is by far the nicest Holiday Inn we have ever stayed in!! It ranks better than some of the five star hotels we have been in! It was very clean, absolutely beautiful and the staff could not have been nicer!! The room was very comfortable and large and had everything we needed. I understand they have just renovated it and they did a beautiful job! I actually got some ideas for renovating my bathroom at home! I highly, highly recommend staying here if you are in the Williamsburg area! The location was great and we were able to walk to a really nice restaurant and avoid the hassle of driving!

Got to the hotel around 2:45, was told my room wasn’t quite ready. Several guests in front of me had no problem getting their room just prior to the 3PM check-in. Fast forward to 4:45 PM, I was finally allowed to check-in. I was told “unofficially” that it was because I used Priceline and guests who book directly with IHG are given priority. I was also made to feel bad by the rate I was given by Priceline, being told it was an unusually low rate for their property. I mean, I didn’t pick the rate myself. So, I was given room 123 that smelled of smoke, where I had to listen to the elevator all night long. Overall, it was not my usual experience with Holiday Inn. Granted, I used Priceline, but I felt like that was used against me. I will not return to this hotel.

Room was clean for the most part, but we found a plastic baggie that belonged to a previous guest. The pool was great, as was breakfast. Going down the hallway on the first floor to the back elevator was smelly due to the construction. The hallway on our room’s floor was hot and smelled from the construction, but our room itself was nice and cool. The hotel is in a good location within walking distance or short driving distance to the places we wanted to visit.

I was very disappointed with my most recent stay in Williamsburg for many reasons, which I will discuss below:

1) The hotel was undergoing major renovations to the lobby, dining and indoor pool area. None of this information was made available at the time of booking. I specifically chose this hotel because it had an indoor pool. However, I did not find out it was out of order until after I arrived. In addition, guests were forced to go around the outside of the building after check-in to find their rooms because of the renovations.

2) One of the two rooms I reserved was not properly prepared. It had one just one towel in the room. When I called to request additional towels, the harried front desk clerk asked if I could come down as he was the only one on duty that evening.

3) The grab and go breakfast option was not thought out properly. The bag included instant oatmeal in a package. There was no disposal spoon, container or water available to be used to prepare the "grab and go" meal, rendering that portion of breakfast inedible. The fruit put into the bag was also of questionable freshness.

4) The beds were old and the mattresses sunk in the middle.

5) The A/C did not work properly in one of the two rooms reserved. Lucky for us, the temperature is mild this time of year and turning on the fan was sufficient to keep the room cool.

I understand the pandemic has challenged service industry. However, a minimal standard of care should be employed for a facility to carry the Holiday Inn brand. In this particular case, the facility in Williamsburg failed to meet that minimum standard.

Stay anywhere else but here. We drive 6 hours and arrived at 10pm. It took us 30 minutes to check in because I asked to use a different credit card than the one I used for the reservation, instead, they double-billed us. The parking lot was full of construction equipment and there was no parking. We got to the room and there was no wifi, no desk chair or any other chairs, just a bed and an old loveseat that was old decor (I’ll post pictures)— we have to work while we’re in town. The toilet didn’t flush and there was only lukewarm water in the shower and the tub was stained.. We contacted the desk clerk - who offered to let us work downstairs in a public area to access the wifi, and didn’t much care about any other issues we had. We asked to move to another holiday inn hotel, they would not do that. We asked to cancel the remaining nights of our reservation - they also refused. We were not told when we made the reservation that the hotel was under construction and we are being charged the full rate. When Neven wouldn’t help us, we contacted
Customer relations, but apparently the hotel night clerk, Neven, has the authority to refuse to allow guest relations to let us find a furnished functional room with warm water and working toilet as an alternative. I strongly recommend not staying here. I was too tired, at 1am when we finally gave up trying to get anyone from holiday inn to help us, to take a picture of the 0 parking spaces and all the crap in the back of the lot.

I've never dealt with anything like this before. Checked in Friday. No parking spots available. Front desk person was advising guests to park in the fire lane. Construction debris, containers and equipment in parking lot. Construction workers drinking(partying) in parking lot. Stairwells full of construction tools and hotel furniture. Translucent paper was taped over our room windows which didn't block parking lot and sign lighting from outside. Elevator stopped working and maintenance person had to prop door open to maintenance area so that the elevator equipment wouldn't overheat because it wasn't cooled properly. Shower did not work Saturday morning. Informed front desk. Returned Saturday afternoon and shower had not been repaired. Front desk person came to room and verified not working. Said he would contact me for a resolution. Never did. Left early Sunday morning and told front desk that the shower issue was never resolved and I would not be paying. Credited our card for the full amount. Later charged my card for a different amount. We were there for a soccer tournament. Not being able to shower at all and get restful sleep was a huge problem.

We checked in around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2021. The first thing I noticed on the way to our room was the side door was left open and unlocked. This is a safety concern for me. There was an elevator out of service. The ice machines on floors 2 & 3 did not work. We had to go to the 4th floor for ice. We were gone all day on Monday and came back to our room about 8:00 p.m. Our room had not been cleaned and we had no towels. When my husband called the front desk about this, he was told that due to COVID they were not cleaning the rooms daily unless you ask for it. We were also told there was a note posted at the front desk referring to the rooms not being cleaned daily. Since we checked in late and we're staying 3 nights, we feel that should have been told to us when we checked in. There was nothing in the room stating this would happen. We were really ready to check out and go somewhere else. We realize the pandemic has caused a lot of problems for businesses. We are not unreasonable, but feel these things need to be taken care of. We are not leaving for 2 more days and will be sure to mention we want our room cleaned. We sincerely hope things improve beginning Tuesday.

The employees of the hotel were NOT wearing masks as they checked us in or went about their business all over the lobby.

When I checked in I was not asked for my identification, I was not asked to provide a credit card... it all felt very unsafe.

When coming out of the pool and back into the lobby an employee was spaying something into the air and without looking turned and sprayed it directly on my 9 year old son and I.

I am sure this does NOT meet the standards Va has for COVID guidelines. And I am appalled at the lack of concern for the health and safety of the guests.

The lobby was beautifully remodeled. First noticed all the chaos in the lobby when I came in to check in. Guest complaining about room and about the green cloudy pool. When I entered our room I immediately started sanitizing surfaces. The amount of dirt and grime that came off of common surfaces that should be cleaned between each guest was shocking! The bathroom was atrocious! The shower headboard had so much lime scale and grime built up on it, shower curtain was stained, mold all over ceiling and rust, other people’s hair, & dirt in tub. My kids were scared to shower, so we all wore flip flops. I had to bathe the baby in the sink since the tub was so disgusting! I would not stay here again unless every room is remodeled! Only saving grace was the mattress was comfortable and did not find any bugs. Employees were kind but definitely overwhelmed. This hotel needs a lot of help.

I meant to book at the newer location on Bypass road. This location is an old Holiday Inn, and it shows. They TRIED to renovate but you can't put lipstick on a pig. The only saving factor was being on the 4th floor, its the new floor (hint if you have to stay here ONLY stay 4th floor). The other 3 are disgusting and I would have left if I had to stay there. However, even the new floors have problems. Our first night, no hot water and we had to move rooms. Oh and when I went to let front desk know and to speak to a manager, I got attitude from them - went and found the manager just fine and dealt with it. From then on guess what, front desk was helpful once I let the manager know their snotty attitude. He was helpful and we moved rooms only to have a non-working fridge. Walls are thin, breakfast is nothing to be happy about, but there is a pool so if you have small kids and are wanting an indoor pool that seems to be very popular. The beds were comfortable and seemed new (new rooms maybe). Its not a cheap property so I expect more at a price point of $150 a night than $80 a night. People are smoking in the rooms you can smell it. It was just me and my son, and we usually have good experiences at HIE properties but now I know to call ahead and check to ensure they are new built not an old HI renovation.
