About “Codeine Velvet Club”

Codeine Velvet Club(2009) began as a side project from the lead vocalist and guitarist of the Glaswegian Indie Rock band The Fratellis, Jon Lawler (accredited as Jon Fratelli on album sleeve) after the release of the groups Sophomore album, Here We Stand. Lawler despised the touring and decided to take a break from the group to start on solo works. After a connection made by Lawler’s wife, a burlesque dancer, Lawler paired with Burlesque singer Lou Hickey to write a Sinatra and Shore-esque baroque album. With a theme of struggling to remain honest and famous that beat the film Lalaland by 7 years, the self-titled debut highlights the chemistry of Lawler and Hickey in every track they perform together. With Ross McFarlane on drums, Will Foster playing keyboard, Lewis Gordon on bass, Ryan Quigley and Cameron Jay on trumpets, and Paul Towndrow and John Melone on Saxophones, every instrumental perfectly guides the theme of the song.
