Brandon Davis Pours His Heart and Soul Into New Album, ‘Life’s Too Short,’ Inspiring Fans to Savor Every Moment

“I think the overall message we were trying to get across was just that, you know, life is just too short to spend not enjoying it, and every story that you hear in these songs is a way to express that,” the rising country star shared.

Brandon Davis is a soon-to-be superstar that all country music lovers need to keep on their radar.

Releasing Life’s Too Short earlier this month via Big Yellow Dog Music, the country crooner explores love, heartbreak, faith, mortality, and more throughout all 17 tracks on the project, all while experimenting with different facets of country music.

“There was a lot of 90s country living in this thing, and you can hear it in the production too,” Davis gushed in an exclusive interview with Country Now. “We found a lot of baritone guitars and fiddles and a whole lot of pedal steel that just really drove home the country I grew up on, and I wanted that to really be expressed through this album” – with just one listen from top to bottom, this 90s country influence is evident throughout the entirety of the album.

Working with some of the best writers in the industry (who have worked with chart-topping superstars like Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Jelly Roll, Jon Pardi and Lady Gaga in the past), each and every track on Life’s Too Short is a soon-to-be smash hit, and some of them might even have listeners shedding a few tears.

Since the release of the record on September 1, the emerging artist revealed that the response has been overwhelming, in the best way possible.

“It’s been amazing just to watch as people gravitate towards different songs, because there’s so many different walks of life as you go through each track,” Davis explained. “Seeing people say, ‘Well, you know, ‘Mixtaping the Radio’ reminds me of my childhood’ or ‘‘Leave It To Love’ reminds me of a heartbreak that really stuck with me’ or ‘‘Leave a Mark’ reminds me of my wife or my husband or my boyfriend or my girlfriend.’ It’s just amazing to watch all these songs take on this life for not just us, but all these people that we wrote it for.”

While listeners have been able to connect to a wide range of songs on Life’s Too Short, the talented singer-songwriter shared which track is especially important to him.

“In the way of one being especially personal, that would be ‘Pretty,’ because ‘Pretty’ is a song that me, Kendal Conrad and Clay Mills wrote, but I centered it around my wife, and I really just wanted to show everybody how I see her, you know, and what she is like through my eyes… That song is always going to be personal to me, and it’s crazy because everyone else tells me how personal it is to them, how it describes their significant other, and it’s just amazing to watch that unfold,” Davis shared.

“If I had to pick a personal favorite outside of that, it’s going to have to go to ‘Nobody Cares,’ which is all the way down at track number 17,” the rising star continued with a grin. “I wrote this song with Josh Byrd, simply because we wanted to write a song that we loved. A song that spoke to us and the music we grew up on, and when you hear a title like ‘Nobody Cares’ when a steel guitar cries, I feel like it just emulates what country music was and what a lot of us just want country music to still be.”

While Davis himself has pinpointed “Pretty” and “Nobody Cares” as two of his favorite tracks on Life’s Too Short, what do his loved ones have to say?

“Each of them have their own favorite,” the star-in-the-making stated. “My five-year-old, Granger, his favorite on this one has probably gotta be ‘Lightning in a Mason Jar,’ and my oldest boy, Brantley, he still hasn’t picked his overall favorite for this project. He’s still hooked on ‘Jesus and Jesse James’ from our EP that came out earlier this year, but I would say for him, it’s ‘Mixtaping the Radio,’ and Easton loves the song ‘Pray Like Hell,’ because I think he just loves being able to feel like he can scream along with the song… My daughter’s favorite is very easily picked as ‘Pretty.’”

With just one look at his Instagram profile, which has amassed nearly 300,000 followers, it is clear that Davis lights up when he is around his family – there is a reason why they serve as the foundation of his music.

“My family is the basis of it. It’s what drives it. It’s what honestly makes this so fun, because when you get to run around the house and you can sing with your kids, or you can pull your wife in close and just start dancing and having a good time, it’s becoming music that we live to, and it makes what I do so much easier… When you have this kind of drive and inspiration and passion that’s here with you every single day, when you go to write these songs, you’re able to put that passion into the music. You can then share it with the world, and that is something so powerful,” the budding country star shared with a smile.

Even though Life’s Too Short is very important to his family specifically, Davis hopes that all listeners can take something away from the project, connecting their own lives and their own stories to his personal songs.

He added, “I think the overall message we were trying to get across was just that, you know, life is just too short to spend not enjoying it, and every story that you hear in these songs is a way to express that and to say, you know, enjoy your childhood [and] enjoy the time that you have with your loved ones… Have a good time, take a road trip, throw a party, enjoy yourself. Just cut loose and make sure that when you’re looking back at this life that you’ve lived, you can say, ‘You know what? I did it. I didn’t just go through the motions, I did it.’”

“Never forget what your story is and always make sure that you’re going to live that out and share it, because at the end of this life, you want to say, you know, ‘Here’s what I did. I’m proud of it. I’m proud of the people that I lived it with, and I’m proud of the ones that I have close to me that I love,’ and at the end of the day, life is too short, so don’t waste it,” the Tennessee native concluded passionately.
