‘Elle Woods is back': Fans go wild as Reese Witherspoon goes ‘Legally Blonde’ to announce prequel series
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Reese Witherspoon channeled Elle Woods, her character from ‘Legally Blonde’, as she announced a prequel series titled, ‘Elle’, to the 2001 film.
On Tuesday, May 14, the actress was seen in a hot pink Dolce & Gabbana blazer along with a matching pleated skirt as she appeared at Amazon’s inaugural upfront presentation, as reported by PEOPLE.
She completed her look by adding a baby pink pair of Christian Louboutin slingback heels and also took a Chihuahua with her on the stage.
Costume designer explains the story behind the pink color
In 2022, costume designer Sophie de Rakoff explained why they went for all pink in the over two-decade-old movie.
“The backstory is, Reese and I, and maybe the production designers, went to visit some sororities [in downtown Los Angeles],” Rakoff told Entertainment Weekly.
She further elaborated, “We knew that she needed a signature color, and we were like, 'Do we really want it to be pink? It's so on the nose. It's so feminine. Could we do lavender?
“Could we do light blue? Is there another color that we could do?'”
“When we met all the sorority girls, it had to be pink,” Rakoff added.
Reese Witherspoon announces ‘Elle’
Besides, Witherspoon took to Instagram to speak about the new project.
The ‘Big Little Lies’ star wrote, “Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ‘90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her, next year on @primevideo ✨ I’M SO EXCITED! 🎀💅🤩🩷.”

Via a statement, Witherspoon added that the audience “will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do.”
