Jakarta. Indonesia's national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, has extended his contract until 2027. Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) Chairman, Erick Thohir, announced this on Instagram.

"We have agreed to continue our collaboration," said Erick on Thursday.

Shin's contract extension to coach Indonesia until 2027 was finalized over a Korean meal. This came after the Garuda Squad secured a spot in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup quarterfinals, where they will face South Korea.

Shin Tae-yong, born on April 11, 1970, in Yeongdeok, South Korea, began his football career at Seongnam FC from 1992 to 2004. He won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award twice during his time there, in 1995 and 2001.

After retiring as a player in 2005, Shin Tae-yong transitioned to coaching. Before joining the Indonesian national team in December 2019, he achieved significant success, including leading the South Korean national team to the final of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup and winning the EAFF Championship in 2017.

Although criticized for relying on naturalized players, Shin Tae-yong has proven himself as a reliable coach. Under his guidance, the Indonesian senior national team reached the Round of 16 in the AFC Asian Cup for the first time. Most recently, he led the Indonesian U-23 national team to the quarter-finals of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup, defeating Australia and Jordan along the way.
