Intercessions for Sunday 2nd June from David Marshall

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.

Father God, we approach your throne of grace with our concerns, our burdens and our thanksgiving for all people throughout the world. Help us to put our trust in you and in our Saviour Jesus Christ, who taught that you love us as a parent and want only what is right for us.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Almighty God, we ask you to guide all Christians and inspire us with the desire to put aside our differences as we seek to serve you. Help us to reach out as the Body of Christ to all who remain outside, especially those who feel unworthy or too sinful. Give us through your grace opportunities to invite them into our fellowship so that they may become aware of your love for them.
In a moment of silence, please ask God to show each one of us the part that he wants us to play in our church life.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Creator God, we know that we are part of the problems that the world faces and that wherever there is resentment between people there will be tension. We pray that those who lead us, and the other nations of the world, will always try to solve issues in a peaceful way and intervene in the world’s conflicts with good judgement and common sense.
In a moment of silence, please pray for any country that you are concerned about today.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Almighty God, we thank you for all people who help our local community to run smoothly. Bless our neighbours and strengthen those who are working in your name to bring healing and comfort to those in need. We pray for the General Election, which will be held on 4 July, and ask that all those who are elected as MPs will seek to serve all people in their constituencies.
In a moment of silence, please pray for any aspect of life in our local community that is on your mind today.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Gracious God we pray for all children and young people as they near the end of another academic year. Be with those who are taking part in important examinations at school and university and those who will be starting new lives in the world of work later this year. Help us through our Christian life to create a society where both young and old, gifted and less able feel valued.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Loving God, we pray for all who are afflicted by physical, emotional or mental illness. Please provide your strength and guidance for all carers either at home, in care homes or hospitals.
In a moment of silence, please pray for one person that you know who needs God’s healing touch today.

Almighty God, we ask you to draw close to all of those mentioned so that they may be aware of your healing presence, and we ask you to provide your peace and comfort for them at this time.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Merciful God, we pray for those who are facing the pain of grief at the loss of a loved one either recently or at this time of year. Help us to support all those who mourn, both with our prayers and with practical help. We remember those who have died and ask that those bereaved by their passing become aware of the light of Christ which shines eternally and brings so much hope.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Everlasting God, we ask you to lead us into the coming week and help us to be aware of your presence. When we face challenging decisions or difficult times, as well as when we enjoy ourselves and have fun with others, may we know that you are there to provide your care and support.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Please feel free to use these intercessions for your own prayers, or in your own service.

(We often gain inspiration from the prayers on the website of the Costa Blanca Anglican Chaplaincy. Please do visit their site too !)
