Frank Lampard has described Seamus Coleman as “amazing” and revealed he recently made contact with the Ireland captain after he reached 15 years of service with Everton.
The 35-year-old signed for the Toffees from Sligo Rovers back in 2008 for the paltry sum of €80,000 and has since gone on to amass 403 appearances for the club.
He was made club captain at Everton in 2019 following the departure of Phil Jagielka and has led the club ever since, while also skippering Ireland since Robbie Keane’s retirement in 2016.
Coleman created history in his side’s recent 0-0 draw with Aston Villa as he became the club’s highest ever Premier League appearance holder with 355.
Lampard revealed he had congratulated Coleman on his latest milestone and recalled his own experiences with him during his time at the club.
He told the Stick to Football podcast: ‘Seamus was amazing. From the first day I sat with him to now, I messaged him the other day when he was 15 years at the club.
‘It’s amazing and what a player as well by the way.
‘I remember playing against him and I didn’t really appreciate [it] until I went and worked with him.
‘But it wasn’t just what he did on the pitch, it was what he did off the pitch. His standards, his humility, everything about him.
‘Family man. There’s not a bit of him that’s not genuine.’
