Alone is a novella by Robert Reed, published in 2010. It is set on board the Great Ship. It spans thousands of years, and tells the story of a shape-shifting machine named Alone who explores the Great Ship.
It was included in the 2013 collection The Greatship. The introduction to the story suggests that Alone has been wandering the Ship since before humans arrived.
