Edward Valdespino, who has been running the San Antonio office of law firm Strasburger & Price LLP, is leaving the industry and being replaced by firm partner Marty Roos.
Valdespino said he has chosen to leave the firm to manage his energy-services businesses, which supply goods and services to oil and gas companies and other firms.
Valdespino has been one of the lawyers spearheading litigation brought on behalf of thousands of investors who lost in R. Allen Stanford’s massive Ponzi scheme. Valdespino successfully took the issue all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled that victims could sue third parties to recover some of the $7.2 billion they lost. He won $40 million for victims last fall in one of the cases in Dallas from accounting firm BDO USA LLC. Valdespino said he will be handing off the Stanford matters to Judith Blakeway, a partner in Strasburger’s San Antonio office.
