WEBVTT GOT CORNERED AND CONFESSED. TERRI: EXACTLY RIGHT. STEVEN WILLIAMS LIED FOR WEEKS ABOUT HIS EX WIFE'S DISAPPEARANCE BUT HE COULD NOT EXPLAIN THE VIDEO OF HIM LEAVING THE CRIME SCENE. WHAT WAS THE GOTCHA MOMENT THAT FINALLY PRESSURED STEVEN WILLIAMS TO CONFESS TO KILLING HIS EX-WIFE? >> THERE'S VIDEO OF THIS PERSON WALKING UP THE STREET. TERRI: THAT'S HIM? >> THAT'S HIM, THAT'S STEVEN WILLIAMS. TERRI: HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF SCOURING SURVEILLANCE TAPE PAID OFF. >> AS SOON AS I SAW THAT I SAID WE GOT HIM, WE KNEW IT HAD TO BE HIM. TERRI: AFTER THEY SHOWED HIM THAT VIDEO, WILLIAMS CAVED AND THEY GOT THEIR PARTIAL CONFESSION. BUT IT'S ONLY NOW THAT WE'RE HEARING HOW WILLIAMS REALLY KILLED TRICIA TODD. >> AS SOON AS SHE CAME INTO THE DOOR HE SAID HE PUT HER IN A CHOKEHOLD AND MADE HER PASS OUT. HE USED ZIP TIES AND TIED HER UP . ONCE HE HAD HER SECURED SHE WOKE UP AND SHE STARTED SCREAMING AND HE SAID AT THAT POINT HE JUST LOST CONTROL. TERRI: HE WANTED HER TO WAKE UP AND GIVE UP HER EMAIL PASSWORD AND CREDIT CARD NUMBERS SO HE COULD MAKE IT SEEM SHE'D GONE TO HAITI ON A MISSION TRIP AND THEN DISAPPEARED. BUT TRICIA KEPT SCREAMING, SO HE KNOCKED HER OUT WITH A MILITARY BATON. >> AND HE SAID HE USED A JUMP ROPE THAT HE HAD BROUGHT WITH HIM FOR THIS PURPOSE TO STRANGLE HER, AND THEN HE LOADED HER INTO THE CAR IN A TRASH BAG. TERRI: AFTER WEEKS OF LIES AND ONLY AFTER HE SECURED A PLEA DEAL, WILLIAMS LED DETECTIVES TO THE SITE WHERE HE HAD A CHAINSAW AND A CONTAINER FULL OF ACID WAITING THAT NIGHT AND WHERE HE BURIED TRICIA'S REMAINS. DETECTIVES TELLS ME THIS WAS NOT STEVEN WILLIAMS' FIRST PLANE. HIS FIRST PLAN WAS TO CUT HER UP, TAKE HER OUT IN A BOAT HE WAS GOING TO RENT AND DUMP THE BODY OVERBOARD. BUT HE DECIDED THAT WAS TOO RISKY.

Tricia Todd killer reveals how, why he killed ex-wife

Steven Williams brags in prison, said he strangled and clubbed Todd to death

As the Martin County Sheriff’s Office released its entire case file of evidence on the April murder of Hobe Sound mother Tricia Todd, detectives revealed her killer finally detailed his entire grisly crime. Detective Michael Oliver was one of two detectives who interviewed Steven Williams in an Orlando prison after his murder conviction. Oliver said Williams said he had planned to kill Todd in advance, but although he spent all day with her the day of the murder, he couldn’t get up his nerve. Finally, Williams told them he determined to do it, and texted Todd their two-year-old daughter who was spending the night with him in an Air Bnb, was sick. When Todd arrived, Williams said he first tried to strangle her, but waited for her to regain consciousness so he could force her to reveal her email password and other information. Williams said he planned to write fake emails to make Todd’s family think she had gone to Haiti on a mission trip. But when Todd regained consciousness, she only “screamed” so Williams said he beat her in the head with a club until she quieted. Then he choked her to death. Their daughter was sleeping in the next room. Williams then took Todd’s body to a remote site in the HungryLand Preserve where he had already dug a hole and readied a container with acid. It was there that he cut up her body with a chainsaw and buried her remains in an acid filled container. One of the dozens of DVDs in the case file shows Williams buying the acid in a North Carolina Home Depot months before the murder. Other videos show him walking detectives through the Air Bnb where he killed Todd. Williams did not confess his whole crime at first, but insisted he’d pushed Todd during an argument, that she fell and appeared lifeless. He said he panicked and dropped her body in a place he couldn’t recall. Videos show detectives driving Williams through the HungryLand Preserve and pressuring him to reveal that place. “I don’t know, I don’t know where this place is,” Williams said repeatedly. “Do you get rid of bodies every day? Is that a normal thing for you?” asked Detective Yesenia Carde. “No, that’s not my job. I don’t do anything with bodies,” said Williams. Detectives said Williams finally cracked the when they told him they had surveillance video of him leaving Todd’s house after he dropped her car off there. He agreed to take them to her body in exchange for a 35 year plea deal that spared him the death penalty. Video shows Williams in an orange jumpsuit walking directly to the spot where he’d buried his ex-wife’s remains and sticking a marker in the ground. During the prison interview, Williams said he killed Todd because he didn’t want to pay child support any longer, he wanted full custody of their daughter, and he didn’t like the way Todd “disrespected” him when he Skyped with their daughter from his Air Force base in North Carolina. The Air Force is also investigating Williams.
