Broken Lizard Comedy Group

is a five-man comedy, film-making group, devoted to intense sunshine, Floridian deep tissue massage, and the advanced study of keeping it realism. During our travels, we made Super Troopers, Beerfest, Club Dread, The Slammin' Salmon and Puddle Cruiser.

THE HISTORY OF BROKEN LIZARD

In 1989, when we originally performed, it was as college students at Colgate University, under the name, “Charred Goosebeak.”  Kevin and Jay graduated in ’90, and waited quietly in New York City for Steve, Paul and Erik to graduate, so they could form a new group.  Luckily, their wait was cut short when Steve failed out of Colgate and moved down to New York City where he started months of freeloading on Kevin and Jay’s couch.  Feeling like three was a quorum, we recruited four New York City funny people, and formed an unnamed group.

With a show fast approaching, we spent three days smoking joints, and pitching names for the new group.  After much debate, we settled on, “The Chocolate Speedo Team.”  But while Jay was standing over the poster designer’s computer, he unilaterally and randomly changed it to Broken Lizard.

And so it was.

Eventually, Paul and Erik graduated and joined Broken Lizard in New York, and we performed a three-year run of elaborate sketch shows, that mixed in short videos as well.  Using the knowledge we gained from making short videos, we made the jump to film, shooting our first short film, THE TINFOIL MONKEY AGENDA.

We followed that up with our college comedy, PUDDLE CRUISER. Next was SUPER TROOPERS, which sold to Fox Searchlight at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival.  We then made CLUB DREAD, also for Searchlight. Next, we moved over to Warner Brothers, where we made BEERFEST. Our most recent film, THE SLAMMIN’ SALMON, was released by Anchor Bay.
