Overpriced and aimed at foreign tourists.

We were recommended by the Hurtigruta staff to take a look at Magic Ice, where you can see ice sculptures and have a drink in the bar. Decently located just a short walk from the dock.

Entrance costs NOK 200 per person and includes a welcome drink. You will be given a winter poncho and gloves before entering.

The ice sculptures themselves are cool and made by professionals. The area is quite small and you only need 2 minutes in there before you have seen everything. In this sense, I think the whole thing is a bit overpriced even if it includes a drink, NOK 100-150 would be enough. This is probably more appropriate for foreign tourists than us Norwegians.

Plus for nice staff!

End of winter, flee. There's almost nothing left

Is it because it's the end of winter but there are only a few ice sculptures left? We see that the others are melted. The ground posts are visible when they should be covered in snow or ice. Wooden pallets in front of some remains of sculptures. A man recutting a part. Having done one in London, this one is very mediocre. The drink is not good and on top of the glass of ice you are given a classic glass. One star for the staff who are friendly and smiling.
Absolutely avoid….

Ice sculptures and ice bar in the old freezing hall

Collection of ice sculptures in an old freezing warehouse near the cruise terminal.
There is an ice rink. Drinks are served in glass of ice.
Entrance only with kroner or credit card. Payment in euros is not possible.
It is -5 in the hall. You can borrow a warm poncho. Fun for the children and there is also a slide. You'll have seen it in 30-40 minutes. Has potential but still needs further finishing

Interesting and cold.

Interesting ice sculptures and tables in a cold environment. Drinks are not so good and price to enter is high (Euro 30). After a while is god to accept the overcoat they offer as minus 5 with no movement is too cold very quickly.

Pseudo art in the ice cellar. We were not impressed and left after 5 minutes. 25 euros for that is far too expensive. A drink was included, but life is too short for cheap drinks

Good ice sculptures in a warehouse

Although the ice sculptures were very good, the environment within the warehouse could be much more attractive. We received a cocktail of strawberry liquor in white wine within the discounted price of 200 NOK(as we were off the Havila Capella ship.

Nice experience

We thought it was worth visiting as it’s close to where the Hurtigruten cruise ship docks. Staff were very friendly and we thought the ice sculptures were cleverly done. If it’s after 12 noon they offer an alcoholic drink. Yes, admission is pricey but everything in Norway seems expensive. We enjoyed the experience.

Underwhelming visit

This is housed in a warehouse just off the quayside and looks nothing from the outside. Inside you enter a shop/reception area where the sole staff member (when we visited) was based. WWE got a discount on admission. The admission was 300NOK per adult although as we from a cruise ship we got a discount to 200 each.
For this you get to wander round the ice sculptures and an alcoholic drink at the ice bar. You are provided with a warm cape and gloves to keep some of the chill off during your visit.

You enter through a typical warehouse door into this space full sculptures. The sculptures all looked to have been there for some time. Personally was underwhelmed and rather than the suggested hour we spent about half that time.

Very very ice

Very, very Ice!

One of the conditions of us travelling half way round the world was my insistance that we go to an ice bar. We chose Svolvaer over Tromso as we knew it's be quieter and more authentic.

The staff were really patient with us choosing a package and putting the capes on our SEN child.

Fantastic ambience in the bar / gallery; nightclub style lighting with house music. Some fantastic sculptures and fun installations.

I LOVED the temperature. Even our 7 year old was happy with it in the supplied cloak. After 30 mins my partner and son left for the warmth of the gift shop. I removed my cloak and enjoyed another drink while embracing the coolth. I had a Jager, and you will need the (supplied) grippy glove to hold a slippery shot glass. It was pure bliss. If I wasn't here with my family I could spend hours in here!

It is expensive, but it's a unique gimmick, so I had no problem paying it. Definitely recommend.

Tourist trap

If you want to experience the definition of a tourist trap - go here, otherwise, no reason to go. Very expensive. Some machine made glass ”sculptures” in a industrial building with music that does not at all fit the interionn (?) of showing the local culture and history. Horribly expensive for basically nothing.
