11. Madchen in Uniform

This is an incredible story because it goes all the way back to the 1930s. Can you imagine a lesbian romance story in that era?

If you just came out or you’re still contemplating on doing it and you’re scared, then this movie might just give you the confidence you need.

13. Room in Rome

This is a movie that you’ll be thinking about for a long time after you watch it. The film is about Alba and Natasha, who meet on holiday in Rome and share an intense night of passion. Their chemistry is undeniable, and they share so much about their dreadful pasts.

By the end of the movie, you’ll learn that the only thing that matters is enjoying your life and everyone who is part of it.

Get it on DVD or Blu-Ray.

14. Duck Butter

This is for those who love an outside-the-box kind of love. I’ll love to add that it’s made by the director of Good Girls because I can’t wait for the next season.

The movie is about two characters Sergio and Naima, jaded by broken relationships and dishonesty, making a 24 hours pack. For this hour, they intend to form intimacy, but it doesn’t go as expected.

The two actresses do a fantastic job of bringing out the subtle insecurities and nuances of each character.

The movie feels honest and real.

15. Aimee and Jaguar

This isn’t a movie for the faint-hearted, but it’s one of the lesbian love movies of all time.

The film is based on a real love story of a Jewish undercover woman, Felice, who fell in love with a Nazi housewife, Lily.

As they become closer to each other, their environment becomes even more shaken. The film shows you the vulnerability of having “forbidden love” in love on a knife-edge.

The actors do a great job of showing the lovers’ tenderness, desire, and emotional vulnerability.

It’s free to watch on Tubi TV.

16. Kiss Me

This should’ve been on top of the list. It shows an original and fresh way of falling in love.

It all starts when Mia and Frida’s parents get engaged, and they’re both thrown out. They’re surprised by the strong attraction and connections they have towards each other.

But the main question is what their way forward should be because Mia is engaged to Tim.

Will Mia move on with her life and her engagement with Tim or follow her newly found passion with Frida?

This one is also available on Tubi.

17. Princess Cyd

While this may not be a romantic lesbian love story, it definitely deserves to be on the list.

It’s a story of a girl (Cyd) who visits her independent aunt in Chicago. Cyd later falls in love with Katie, but their sexual relationship is treated refreshingly.

All-female characters are strong and have deep empathetic depictions in both sexual and non-sexual relationships.

Find it on Hulu or Amazon Prime Video.

18. The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love

This is classic teenage stuff, but it’s an excellent choice for a date night. Randy, a lesbian who is somewhat a tomboy, works at a gas station. Her grades are very poor because the locals mistreat her because of her sexuality.

She then starts an odd friendship with one of the popular girls in school (Evie). And then friendship grows into a romantic relationship. They share music and books as they try to navigate the struggles of revealing their relationship to their family and friends.

Hwei-Ian moves in with Wil, which puts a strain on her relationship with Vivian. This movie gives the Asian-American lesbians to see themselves represented in the entertainment industry.

20. All About E

This is an exciting film about a Sexy DJ who seems to have it all; the perfect love with her lovely girlfriend Trish and a job at one of Sydney’s top gay club.

If you’re looking for one of those cheesy lesbian stories, then Tell it to the Bees will do it for you.

If you’ve watched Grace and Frankie, then Vita and Virginia are very close to the series. Poet Vita Sackville-West falls in love with famous novelist Virginia Woolf.

This movie is about equality and justice. The characters Stacie and Laurel are in love, and they even live together.

Laurel is respected as a police officer, and she is diagnosed with cancer, and they realize Stacie won’t be getting any benefits.

It’s a movie of grief, death, love, and the unequal rights of the LGBTQ community.

(Please note that the trailer came out before Elliot Page did, so it still includes his deadname. We tried to find an alternative trailer, but to no avail.)

Rent it on Amazon.

27. I can’t Think Straight

This is a romance film about Tala and Leyla who are planning their wedding. The film deals with sexuality, race, and class.

But the sweet happy ending of the British Indian woman and a London-based woman makes it all worthwhile.

This is another case of a forbidden love affair, but it’s not a plot you’re used to.
