Is ‘Ghostbusters Afterlife’ on HBO Max Or Netflix?

If you’ve been sensing something strange in the neighborhood lately, you’d be right, because the new Ghostbusters movie, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is now available to watch in the comfort of your living room.

Unlike the 2016 reboot starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, this fourth installment in the Ghostbuster franchise will serve as a direct sequel to the original movies that came out in the ’80s. Directed by Jason Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set 30 years after the events of Ghostbusters II, and features a new generation of spectral experts: Siblings Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard). When Phoebe and Trevor start experiencing, well, something strange in the neighborhood, they discover their connection to the original ghostbusters via their late grandfather.

Featuring appearances from the OG busters Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is sure to be a treat for fans. Here’s where to watch Ghostbusters: Afterlife and when you can expect Ghostbusters: Afterlife on streaming.

WHEN WILL GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE BE STREAMING? WHERE TO WATCH GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE

After a brief theatrical run that began in November 2021, Ghostbusters Afterlife is now available to purchase via a number of digital outlets, like Amazon Prime, Vudu, iTunes, and more. The movie is not yet available to rent, though; you must purchase the title (for $19.99) to be able to watch.

The first place Ghostbusters: Afterlife will most likely go after its digital release—though it’s not guaranteed—is Starz, due to a pre-existing deal with the premium cable network. If Ghostbusters: Afterlife does go to Starz, it will most likely be 6 to 9 months after it opens in theaters, meaning May 2022 to August 2022. It would also be available on services like Hulu with the Starz add-on.

Disney also recently made a deal with Sony to bring Spider-Man and other Marvel properties to Disney Plus after the movies are released on Netflix—but that deal begins with Sony’s 2022 release slate, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife was released in 2021.

In other words, it may be a while before Ghostbusters: Afterlife is available to stream at home. If you can’t wait to bust some ghosts, you’ll want to go see this one in a movie theater.

WILL GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE BE ON HBO MAX?

No. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a Sony movie, not a Warner Bros. movie, and therefore Ghostbusters: Afterlife will not be on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters.  HBO Max—which is owned by Warner Media—has been the streaming home for blockbuster Warner Bros. theatrical movies like Dune, but it will not be the streaming home for Ghostbusters. (At least, not any time soon.)

IS GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE ON NETFLIX?

No. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is not on Netflix. While Netflix has signed some deals to stream some 2022 Sony films, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a 2021 movie and will likely not be included in that. Therefore, it’s unlikely that Ghostbusters will be streaming on Netflix any time soon.
