To celebrate fifteen whole years of Minecraft, Google has incorporated a fun little easter egg into its web browser that (kind of) lets you play Minecraft inside of Google. In fact, it's so detailed, that you'll likely spend longer than you should playing it.

While Minecraft was "officially" released in 2011, the mega-hit sandbox game that we all know and love was first released to the public in 2009, making it 15 years old this year. It was originally created by Markus Persson, who many will know simply as "Notch". Fifteen years later and Minecraft has become the best-selling video game of all time. Its development studio, Mojang Studios, was also acquired by Microsoft for $2.5 billion back in 2014.

While Google is celebrating Minecraft's 15th anniversary in its own quirky way, Mojang Studios is hosting some massive discounts for all things Minecraft on their website. In recent years, Minecraft has evolved to become much more than just one singular game. With the likes of Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends soaring in popularity, there's never been a better time to get invested in these spin-offs.

Over on Minecraft's official website, a special 15th-anniversary sale is now live. Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends have all been slashed by 50%, meaning you can pick them up for just $19.99.

Google Has A Special Minecraft Easter Egg You Might Have Missed

If you want to check out Google's latest in-browser easter egg, simply head on over to Google and search for 'Minecraft'. From here, you'll see a small grass block at the bottom of your screen. Click it, and you'll see Steve's fist appear on your screen, then this is where the fun really begins.

At first, I thought the easter egg was simply Steve's fist, but I quickly realised this was so much more. When you go to click on a link or webpage, Steve will begin mining and reveal a special Minecraft backdrop. You can continue to scroll and do this repeatedly, but that's not where the fun ends.

Once a backdrop has appeared, you can actually interact with it and mine dirt, stone, wood, iron, and more. You can even upgrade your pickaxe by clicking on the correct blocks. For example, you begin with a fist, so you'll need to harvest some wood to get a wooden pickaxe, then some stone for a stone pickaxe, and so on.

I'm not ashamed to say I spent longer than I should messing around with Minecraft inside of Google, and I recommend you check it out too while you still can.
