Eclipse and MM

DISCUSSION

So now that our combat speed has been reduced with SCM mode how am I supposed to use the Eclipse? The entire role of the ship was to fly as stealth (shields down) and fast as you can, drop torpedo on target, who didn't even know you were there, or almost just noticed, and fly away turning on shields to avoid target escorts and enjoying the big kaboom while looking back. That was freaking amazing, so now what should I do? I can't shoot while speeding, so am I supposed to slowly move to my target position and shoot a random torpedo praying nobody notice it and shoot it down? Please help me understand because i'm trying to like MM but damn I can't, and every time I encounter something like this my arms drop on the ground. Eclipse stealth run was one of my favourite loop..

eclipse was never about speed. the idea behind having such low sigs and high range on torps is that you could get just close enough to launch a torp at them and then leave without them seeing you. not super fast flybys. the big issue rn is that stealth doesnt really work. yeah theres technically ways to kinda sorta make it almost work but its definitely not where it needs to be. until we get full fledged scout ships with radar systems and the ability to share target data its likely the eclipse will feel a bit off because of how close we have to be to lock targets

Oh man super fast flybys was the thing that sold me the eclipse, and lord knows how much I enjoyed it! :')

I always thought retaliator was the long range version an the eclipse was more about flyby, since she has good speed and very flat profile to face your enemy and reduce risk of being hit

I agree, stealth "kinda worked" for me, but the idea of scout ships and sharing target is so cool to balance the stealth gameplay! But I still think that eclipse fits too good in that flyby role and all the scout and targeting integration would just improve it and balance it even more, I just can't see the eclipse as a stop, point and shoot type of ship

The Eclipse needs to be looked at from the perspective of what was likely its IRL inspiration, the B-2 Spirit. Speed is not the goal, never being seen, and your presence being unknown until after the ordinance impact.

Nothing to do with MM. Stealth is little to non-existed right now. You do the same here just more cinematic way. Speed in via Quantum Flight mode, get close without getting noticed since you already don't have shield and weapons so easier to get close. Change mode, shoot missile, QT Flight mode again and zoom out.

More cinematic? Change mode = slowing downs speed completely, so I have to run, almost stop, aim, shoot and run again? And this should be more cinematic then dropping that torpedo while in high speed aligning to my enemy? Oh dear god it sounds awful.. this has literally everything to do with MM... even that "easier to get close" sounds unfun and no more skills required...

Skill required? Are you suggesting flying straight to target at max speed, shoot a torpedo without slowing down or anything and continue flying at max speed with a slight angle after shooting the torpedo requires skill?

wow.

This is the only thing you readed about my answer? XD Yep for the eclipse I choose the wrong word maybe, it wasn't difficult, but maybe not, because at least it was more logical and suited for the role, and it was fun, and also required more skills for sure, you got to think when to turn on or off shields and weapons, aiming while fast alignment instead of stop and point like wtf.. But jesus you read that and forgot the entire discussion just because you found something to attack me while instead I'm pointing out a lot more then only the "skill factor". And if we want to talk about skill and MM cmon man are you serious? Even people who likes this mode should at least admit it's limited asf talking about movements and engaging possibilities.

Only difference for Eclipse is you just slow down. Instead of you manually turning off and on shields are done via changing modes. So yeah, also boost and decoupled still exists if you wanna keep your momentum while fighting.

I can see it now. Raising your hand at the Northrop Grumman B21 initial design meeting and saying, "We need to design a bomber that can travel at Mach 2, but only until it gets near its target. Once it's within range of its target it needs to drop down to Mach 0.5 to deploy its payload. Oh, and it can't use any of its defensive capabilities when it's approaching or leaving its target."

Call it whatever you want, the current state of MM is beyond asinine. It's a net negative on flight gameplay regardless of the loop you're taking part in.

It's kinda what it feels like to me too, I'm ok with the idea of Nav mode and combat mode, I was hyped about at first, i tought it could add something new, but I wasn't imagining it going this way, there's s lot to rethink.. I hope CIG will do their best to find the correct balance, but i'm not sure if the solution is only about adjusting numbers or if it's about MM core mechanics itself

I think it has always been a PvE/SQ42 ship intended for scripted missions. So it will work in that role where the AI are programmed to not notice you drifting in at SCM speed.

It isnt realistic to expect to be allowed to PvP snipe, they have said they dont want surprise snipe gameplay, at least in PvP.

In this case im talking about PVE, i never used it in PVP, because was already balanced, almost impossible to hit someone in PVP, even if they don't know you are there was just to easy for them to escape from torps, so now eclipse is just useless at all? From being a top tier single role ship to literally anything can be achieved with it?? Man everyday I hate more and more MM..

I know people who still run the Eclipse for PVE no problem. Except for being unable to score any hammerhead kills as that thing hard focus’ the torp with its turrets.

What technique do they use? I mean do they run and turn on scm mode stopping on enemies face or do they slowly reach the enemy in scm mode and fire torpedo from distance?? Every solution I can think is way more boring and illogical then the cool system we had for the eclipse..

I like the idea of the hammerhead "possibility" to shoot down torps, a lot, but the purpose the eclipse is to have a chance to hit it too, if I can't run and shoot anymore, what should I do? If the hammerhead aren't a doable target anymore what target should I engage? If I can't do hammerhead how am I supposed to pay for those torpedos supplies and keep some auec in my pocket?
