"Changing 'Metropolitan' to 'San Francisco Bay' in Oakland Airport's name accurately describes OAK's geographic location on the Bay and presents the airport as an additional choice for travel into the San Francisco Bay Area," said port attorney Mary Richardson on Thursday, announcing the lawsuit. The San Francisco city attorney's decision to pursue litigation "is an attempt to stop consumer education, prevent expanded air travel options for Bay Area residents and visitors, and is a misguided use of San Francisco taxpayer dollars," she added.

The Terminal 3 West project has started, and United will be operating additional flights in Terminal 2.

In July, San Francisco International Airport will officially start the USD 2.5 billion Terminal 3 West Modernization project. This project aims to upgrade the current 500,000-square-foot western section of Terminal 3 with enhancements such as a seismic retrofit, an expanded security checkpoint, and new passenger amenities.

Additionally, the project will generate an extra 250,000 square feet of space, enabling the expansion of food, beverage, and retail options. Throughout this project, United Airlines will increase its flight operations in Terminal 2, while temporary walkways will be introduced to guide passengers around the construction zone.
