LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – A former judge is facing charges after authorities say she slashed vehicle tires near Auburn Elementary School.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office says parents were attending the school’s Thanksgiving meal Thursday when they notified school resource officer Vince Brown about a woman with a knife threatening to cut parents’ tires in a parking lot close to the school.

Brown responded to a parking lot at the back of 141 N. Lincoln St. Authorities say he observed the woman slash two tires of a vehicle with a butcher knife before he confronted her as she held the knife over her head.

Authorities say the woman, identified as Sue Carol Browning, 60, of Auburn, ran into a building that was later found to be her personal business.

The sheriff’s office says the woman then discarded the knife in the business. Browning was arrested.

She is charged with second-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), second-degree criminal mischief, menacing and tampering with physical evidence.

Students and staff at the school are safe and the student resource officer immediately took action to secure the area, according to the sheriff’s office.

Logan County Sheriff’s Office sheriff Stephen Stratton confirmed Thursday afternoon that Browning is the former judge for District 7, which includes Logan County.

Browning was taken to the Logan County Detention Center.
