Everything you need to know about WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria

WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria is now live, giving all of us the chance to experience Pandaria again — with a few changes. All players participating in Remix start at level 10 and go all the way up to 70, all in Pandaria. There are new powers to collect in the form of gems, which provide flat boosts or new active abilities to let you zoom through the levels, as well as a Cloak of Infinite Potential that will power up as you play, providing a buff to any other Remix characters you make.

With Dragonflight winding down, this is a great opportunity to level new alts — note that you can’t bring existing characters to the event — or just kill time while we all wait for The War Within. Plus there are mounts, pets, and transmog to collect. So, really, how could we say no?

If you’re ready to dive in, here’s everything you need to know about WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria.

What is there to to do in WoW Remix?

Re-experience Pandaria. WoW Remix offers an accelerated leveling experience, and all of Pandaria is available to you, but you can’t leave: you’ll be leveling from 10 to 70 only on Pandaria. As you go, all dungeons and raids will be accessible at different level bands — we have list of every dungeon and raid, and the levels you can access them — so you’ll have the chance to experience all Pandaria while you go. And, honestly, there are a lot of things in Pandaria that we can’t wait to do again.

Play a whole new way with new skills. But it will be a unique experience. Not only will you be able to run dungeons and raids as you level: you’ll also be picking up new skills and abilities as you progress, which give you new abilities. You equip abilities by socketing gems — here’s a list of every type of gem and the abilities they give you. Meta gems give new active abilities, some based on existing class abilities, and Cogwheel gems specifically give you new movement abilities (so you can finally live out your dream of being a Paladin with Blink). You can equip one of each of those types of gems and customize your playstyle.

Level alts faster than ever. Remix is an accelerated leveling experience from the beginning, but you’ll also be buffing yourself — and any future Remix alts — as you go. You get a Cloak of Infinite Potential early in your WoW Remix experience, which is an upgradeable piece of gear you can use across your Remix characters. You upgrade the cloak as you go by increasing its thread count, using threads you’ll get from quest rewards. If you make a new Remix character, you’ll be able to use the same cloak, making it a little like a heirloom — and letting you level your next alt that much faster. Here’s what we know about the Cloak of Infinite Potential and how to level it. If you want a fresh stable of alts, WoW Remix will be a speedy way get them leveled up. If you’re looking to rack up levels as quickly as possible, we have some suggestions.

Mounts, pets, and transmog. This new game mode is packed with cosmetic rewards which will also be accessible on your main characters. The highlight is probably the Cloak of Infinite Potential itself, as after you level it sufficiently you get a toy which gives you the cosmetic appearance of the original Mists of Pandaria Legendary cloaks. However, there are many, many, many other rewards to collect, primarily recolors of Mists of Pandaria gear. If you want to collect some new looks or alternate color mounts, this is the place to get them.

And the Tusks of Mannoroth. You can get those too.

Do I need a subscription to play?

Though you don’t need to own any particular version of Warcraft, you need an active World of Warcraft subscription to play. You can, however, play up to level 20 with the Starter Edition, subscription or no. You just can’t get further without paying up.

Can I play with an existing character?

Sorry, but no. WoW Remix is only for new characters leveling from 10-70 in Pandaria.

Is this WoW Classic: Mists of Pandaria?

Don’t jump into Remists expecting to play Pandaria-era classes. Even though we are going back in time (kind of), this isn’t WoW Classic. WoW Remix uses modern Dragonflight classes and races: the only difference is that WoW Remix adds new skills, so it won’t quite be the same old Dragonflight gameplay.

How do I create a WoW Remix character?

Easy! To make a WoW Remix character, just launch the retail version of World of Warcraft, select the server you want to play on, and click Create New Character. Select “Timerunner” and then make your character as usual.

What servers are available?

Remix takes place on existing servers, so you can roll a character on your current realm and join your current guild. However, this character will only be able to play with other WoW Remix characters on Pandaria until the event ends.

What should I play in WoW Remix?

Allison has some very serious class advice for you.

But, really, play whatever sounds fun. That’s what this is for, after all.

What happens to Remix characters when the event ends?

When Remix ends on August 19, your characters will become standard characters on the realm you created them on, so you’ll be ready to dive into The War Within.

How do I gear up in WoW Remix?

Gear is a bit basic in this game mode, with very few stats. Instead, the gear relies on gems to power up. Meta gems (unique helm gems) add new active abilities, Cogwheel gems (unique boot gems) add new movement abilities, Tinker gems add passive buffs, and Prismatic gems are simple stat gems. You can also buy random gems from a vendor for Bronze — though if you give it time, you’ll get all of your gems just while playing.

But you won’t run into amulets, rings, and trinkets: these items have no stats (only gem sockets) and can only be earned by finishing achievements. Here’s how to get jewelry and trinkets in WoW Remix:

  • Neck: Complete all Pandaria raids on normal difficulty
  • Ring 1: Complete all Pandaria scenarios on heroic difficulty
  • Ring 2: Complete all Pandaria dungeons on heroic difficulty
  • Trinket 1: Complete any three achievements in WoW Remix
  • Trinket 2: Reach level 70 in WoW Remix

How do I get gems in WoW Remix?

Fortunately, it isn’t hard to get gems: you’ll get them by doing just about anything. Kill mobs, run dungeons, do quests: you’ll pick up gems as you go, and you’ll eventually get everything.

But if you aren’t finding the gems you want, you can buy random gems for 500 Bronze — you won’t get duplicate Meta, Cogwheel, or Tinker gems, so you’ll get something new until you have everything. You’ll only get duplicates of the Prismatic gems, which are the only gems you can use multiples of, combining them to make more powerful Prismatic gems.

And you only need to get the unique gems once: you can remove them from gear and reuse them later if you decide to swap them out.

Here are all of the gems (and new abilities) you can get in WoW Remix.

How do I level my Cloak of Infinite Potential in WoW Remix?

You can upgrade your cloak by applying Threads, which add different stats. Threads provide a +1 to +12 stat boost, depending on their quality, and you’ll find higher quality Threads as you level. Here are the different stats Threads can provide:

  • Primary stat
  • Stamina
  • Critical Strike
  • Haste
  • Mastery
  • Versatility
  • Leech
  • Speed
  • Experience gain

You’ll get Threads from practically any activity, and while you can’t upgrade your cloak infinitely you can upgrade it pretty dang far, with a stat cap of 10 million per stat. Killing raid bosses will also give you substantial XP boost threads: we recommend doing raids (LFR counts!) weekly for to get this bonus reward. (Raids reset on a daily basis, but you only get this reward once per week.)

Regardless, keep playing and you’ll keep getting Threads to power yourself up.

Here’s our guide on leveling your cloak if you need more help.

How do I get WoW Remix mounts, pets, and transmog?

Many unique items are available for purchase with a new currency called Bronze, which you’ll collect as you go: you’ll earn bronze from quest rewards and mob drops, as well as by unraveling gear — basically the Remix version of disenchanting. Play the game, unravel your spare gear, and you’ll collect plenty of Bronze as you go. Once you’ve collected a pile of Bronze, look for the Infinite Bazaar on your map and head over to spend your freshly earned loot! If you need more help, here’s our guide on getting and spending Bronze in WoW Remix.

There are also quite a few rewards from achievements, particularly zone-wide achievements. And many of them don’t look bad, requiring you to complete one or two achievements of your choice in each zone. Just playing your way through Pandaria should get you pretty far. We have a guide on the notable rewards you can get from achievements in WoW Remix to help you get started on them.

Check Wowhead for a full list of every piece of gear available in WoW Remix.

How do I fly in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria?

Though Mists originally required an achievement to let you fly, in WoW Remix you’ll be soaring from the start. All of your mounts, including Dragonriding mounts, are accessible immediately, though in the introductory area you can only use ground mounts. But as soon as you’re in Pandaria, you can take to the sky immediately.

One snag with Dragonriding in Remists is the fact that there’s no way to easily open your Dragonriding talents. Fortunately we have a guide on how to set up Dragonriding in WoW Remix.

When does WoW Remix end?

The event lasts until August 19, at which point all WoW Remix characters will become standard characters, available to play in retail WoW.

And that rounds up what you need to know. I’ll be seeing you soon in Pandaria!
