VIKINGS FOUNDATION TO OFFER GAMEDAY MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLING SESSIONS

The Widnes Vikings Foundation, in partnership with Mind Halton, is delighted to announce we will be launching a unique project at this weekend’s game against Whitehaven by offering one-to-one mental health counselling sessions.

The gameday mental health support programme will be a first of its kind for British Sport and is something we are incredibly proud to offer.

Simon Fox, Director of the Vikings Foundation said: “Supporting people with mental health considerations is crucially important to us as a Foundation and Club.

“To extend that support at Vikings home games, to men and women of all ages, is a big moment for us and the district.”

It is the perfect time to start this initiative as it is currently Mental Health Awareness Week.

The community counselling sessions will run at all Widnes Vikings home games from this Sunday’s game against Whitehaven until our final home league fixture against Toulouse on the 21st September.

There will be six, 30-minute sessions running from 12:00 – 14:30 each gameday.

Counsellor, Lucy Knight will co-ordinate the bookings via Mind Halton.

The Foundation, in partnership with State of Mind, currently offers a support group called the ‘Extra Time’ at the DCBL Stadium every Tuesday at 7pm.

Men of all ages are welcomed to the home of the Vikings in a safe, warm, welcoming, non-judgemental space to talk and crucially receive professional medical and clinical guidance.

With suicide being the biggest killer of men under 50 these sessions offer vital, often life-saving support, to some of the most in-need individuals in the locality.

Through the ‘Extra Time’ group and this new project, we are able to enhance the support we provide to the community, which is something that we’re incredibly proud of.
