The Good Life

It's Tom's 40th birthday, and he's not happy. He questions what he's done with his life as his friend, Jerry, has crept his way up the executive ladder, but he can't take novelty plastic toys seriously. He seems doomed to spend his life designing hippos on the fourth floor until he has an idea.

The Goods have swapped their car for a cultivator to plow up the garden, and are trying to coax their new chickens to lay eggs. Looking over the fence, Jerry and Margot are certain their neighbors have gone mad and try to save Tom and Barbara from themselves.

The first shoots are beginning to show in the Goods' new garden, but a severely rusted cast-iron stove nearly puts Barbara's fire out on the whole idea.

When a horrified Margot discovers Tom's new pigs have escaped into her garden, she resorts to calling in the residents' association to settle the matter.

The Goods have started a search for alternative sources of food, and Tom has rigged up a generator to make electricity from an alternate source.

Bills are piling up, and the Goods need a holiday. Tom considers earning some extra money - but not for paying boring old bills.

On the day before harvest, Tom injures his back and can hardly move. With just three days to gather the crops before they rot, Barbara makes an impassioned appeal for help.
