Greece’s Tourism Board Teams Up with Low-cost Airline easyJet
Low-budget carrier easyJet is planning to transport more than 2.39 million travelers to Greece this year as part of the airline’s new partnership with the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni was briefed on the collaboration this week during a meeting with GNTO Vice President Konstantinos Zikos, Head of Commercial Partnerships easyJet Roy Stratford, and easyJet holidays Commercial Partnerships Manager Richard Owens.
Airline executives informed Kefalogianni of plans this year which include extending their flights program to Skiathos island. Currently the company operates 137 flights to destinations across Greece and its holidays segment has sold some 230,000 travel packages. At the same time, of the 2.39 million goal for this year, 1.5 million will arriving in Greece via direct flights from the UK, easyJet executives said.
Commenting, Kefalogianni said cooperating with regional and local governments as well as the utilization of visitor data could serve as useful tools to introduce the airline and its holiday company to lesser-known destinations in Greece.
The minister outlined a revised set of priorities which the GNTO and easyJet will implement in the coming period, including joint initiatives and promotional actions for destinations individually.
