Is it pretty easy to find taxis at the Florence train station?
Wait times for a taxi can be lengthy, because there is a taxi crisis in Italy due to the unexpectedly gigantic number of persons (mainly tourists, not considering commuters) arriving at major Italian train stations. If your need for a taxi is TIME SENSITIVE (e.g. you need to catch a plane), you should book ahead, preferably using the app of the taxi operator.
In the case of a tourist arriving at Firenze SMN train station and needing a taxi to reach a hotel or lodging (i.e. not time-sensitive), you need to be patient while waiting in the taxi queue.
Another possibility to to arrange for a private transfer, which some hotels are happy to do for you.
Another possibility is to walk, if your lodging is not too far away (e.g. less than 1 kilometer).

PS find the station on Google Maps and zoom in. You will see three lanes marked “taxi” and will see white vehicles in the lanes. Those are taxis.

I agree - the walk to the centre (generally considered to be the Piazza del Duomo/ Piazza della Signoria or thereabouts)
I usually walk from the train station to Oltrarno (the south side of the river) and it takes me about 10 mins walk.
Easy to find, yes but you may have a substantial wait. We arrived in Milan the evening of 15 May (8:00 pm) and the taxi lines outside the train station were incredible and stayed that way for several hours that we were in the area to observe.
