Trump Says Alan Dershowitz Ought to Have His ‘Head Examined’ For Being a Jewish Democrat

Former President Donald Trump spoke to the press on Tuesday outside of the courtroom in New York City where his porn star hush money trial is taking place and offered much of his regular bombast. While slamming the gag order against him and exaggerating its scope, Trump also read off a list of political commentators he said argue there is no case against him.

When Trump got to Alan Dershowitz’s defense of him, the former president also took the opportunity to slam Jewish Americans who choose to be Democrats.

“As you know, I’m under a gag order, so I can’t answer those very simple questions that you’re asking,” Trump began. “I’m under a gag order. Nobody’s actually seen anything like it.” He added:

But we, talk about subjects we’re allowed to talk about, we’d love to not be under the gag order, but I’m the Republican nominee for president and I am leading in every poll. And I have a gag order. So I think it’s totally unconstitutional.

This will be tested because this should never happen to another candidate or another person, what’s happening here. And, today we had a very, I think, a very good day in court. You see what’s happening, and then you’ll have to report it because I can’t talk about it too much. But, I think it’s a very, very good day. The voters are getting it. John McLaughlin, probably number one poll number with, with, Fabrizio. That’s probably the number one that pollster and voters are getting it, and they don’t like the idea that the courts are deciding the presidential election.

After continuing for several minutes, Trump then cited articles by the likes of Charlie Hurt, Victor Davis Hanson, and others to claim the trial is a “witch hunt.”

“Alan Dershowitz, a great gentleman, this is election interference at the most obvious. And every American, no matter whether you’re on the Trump team or against him, whatever political affiliation it is,” Trump said, appearing to read quotes from Dershowitz, adding:

And he goes on to say he’s a Democrat, he can’t be right about everything because he’s making a big mistake. If you’re Jewish and you’re a Democrat, and that includes Alan Dershowitz, you ought to have your head examined. You see what’s going on with Israel. But he goes, I’m a Democrat and you should be equally concerned about how the legal system is being weaponized and abused for partisan purposes.

Trump has long made controversial comments regarding Jewish Democrats and what he sees as their necessary loyalty to Israel. “In my opinion, the Democrats have gone very far away from Israel. I cannot understand how they can do that,” Trump said in 2019. “They don’t want to fund Israel. They want to take away foreign aid to Israel. They want to do a lot of bad things to Israel. In my opinion, you vote for a Democrat, you’re being very disloyal to Jewish people and very disloyal to Israel.”

The head of the ADL, Jonathan Greenblatt, slammed Trump’s comments as anti-Semitic, saying, “Let’s be clear: What @POTUS said was #antiSemitic. The charge of disloyalty or dual loyalty has been used against Jews for centuries. Almost a year after the #Pittsburgh shooting, as #antiSemitism continues to rise, it’s bewildering that we still need to have this conversation.”
