full synopsis
With the “War to End All Wars” looming, the life of Army “doughboy” Robert Conroy (Logan Lerman, Fury, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Percy Jackson & The Olympians) is forever changed when a little stray dog with a stubby tail wanders into training camp in New Haven, Conn. Conroy gives his new friend a name, a family and a chance to embark on an adventure that would define a century.
Narrated by Robert’s sister Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter, The King’s Speech, the Harry Potter series, Alice in Wonderland), “Stubby” and his new best friend quickly find themselves in the trenches of France and on the path to history. Befriended by French poilu infantryman Gaston Baptiste (Gérard Depardieu, Life of Pi, Cyrano De Bergerac, The Man in the Iron Mask, Green Card), Stubby accompanies the duo along their epic journey through harsh conditions and incredible acts of courage.
For valorous actions above and beyond his small stature, Stubby is recognized as the most decorated dog in history and the first dog promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army, showing the world that the greatest heroes can come from the unlikeliest of places.

Gaston Baptiste (Academy Award® nominee Gérard Depardieu, "Cyrano de Bergerac," "Green Card," "Man in the Iron Mask") is a French poilu who has already spent three years in the trenches when Stubby and Robert arrive, immediately taking the naïve Americans under his larger-than-life wing. Before the war, Gaston was a chef and still takes pride in his ability to whip up a gourmet meal out of whatever simple ingredients he and Stubby can find.

Narrating Conroy and Stubby's epic adventure is Conroy's eldest sister Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter, "The King's Speech," "Alice in Wonderland," "Harry Potter"). Through letters from her brother during the war, Margaret's journal entries provide the necessary historical context to bring this "dog's eye view" of the early 20th century to life!

Elmer Olsen (Jordan Beck) takes it upon himself to be Stubby’s personal foil…and Schroeder’s…and everyone else’s, for that matter. He likes to think of himself as the quiet type unless he’s agitated by a personal slight, perceived unfairness, or any amount of discomfort.
Schroeder Jim Pharr
Hans Schroeder (Jim Pharr) was born in Heidelberg, Germany and immigrated to the U.S. when he was 10 years old. Keenly aware that his accent isn’t too popular these days, Hans (or “Hank” as he prefers to be called) was the first man in his hometown to volunteer for service when war was declared.
When Schroeder is funny, he’s very funny. When he’s serious, he’s very serious. And when he’s annoyed…he’s usually talking to Olsen.
Sgt. Casburn Jason Ezzell
Sgt. Ray Casburn (Jason Ezzell) is a drill sergeant.
When he talks, it’s not a conversation. When he jokes, he’s the only one who gets to laugh. And when he meets a dog who trains better than most of the human Soldiers in his unit…well…he’ll get back to you on that.
And don't call Sgt. Casburn "Sir". He works for a living.
