Kate Beckinsale and Ryan Phillippe star in the thriller The Patient, which will be launched at the Cannes market through the International Film Trust, Deadline exclusively reported.

Beckinsale and Phillippe are joined by Kelly Greyson and David Cade. The film wrapped its principal photography early this year in Alabama. Mukunda Michael Dewil serves as both writer and director.

According to the film's logline: “When The Patient (Phillippe) wakes up in a hospital without any recollection of what happened to him, he is issued a life he doesn’t remember by the inscrutable Dr. Rose (Beckinsale). But soon he comes to suspect that he’s being manipulated in order to protect a powerful politician implicated in a murder.”

The Barnum Picture Company's Robert Ogden Barnum and Benaroya Pictures CEO and International Film Trust Founder Michael Benaroya serve as producers.

Barnum said, “The Patient is my third time getting to join forces with Ryan and Mukunda, and just as on our previous two films, it's been a fantastic experience. Mukunda's stellar script speaks for itself and adding Kate into the mix is the cherry on top.”

“With its twisted thriller ride and outstanding cast, The Patient is exactly the type of project for which we’re always on the lookout. Ryan and Kate are terrific actors that resonate with distributors worldwide,” Benaroya added.

Beckinsale was most recently seen in Charlie Day's feature Fool's Paradise released last year. In 2022, she starred in Catherine Hardwicke's film Prisoner's Daughter with Brian Cox. The actress starred in the Prime Video and ITV limited series The Widow. Beckinsale has two upcoming projects: the spy action film Canary Black and the action adventure drama Stolen Girl.

The actress is famous for playing the Death Dealer Selene in the vampire movie franchise Underworld. She starred in four out of the five films released in 2003, 2006, 2012 and 2016. The only movie she didn't star in was 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

Phillippe most recently starred in the action thriller Prey. He was in the 2023 action mystery The Locksmith. The actor has completed work on the TV movie drama Alive. He next stars in the comedy horror thriller Saint Clare, currently in post-production. One in production is the Prime Video series Motorheads.

The actor is famous for his roles in the 1998 feature film 54, based on the rise and fall of the iconic New York City night club Studio 54, and the 1999 reimagining of the 1782 French novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, Cruel Intentions. Prime Video is developing a series based on the novel and the films.
