With the 2023 NFL season wrapping up, football fans have no choice but to look ahead to 2024. All 32 teams get a clean slate, and there might be no better time than now to bet on a certain team you think can make a run next season.

Let’s take a look at the early odds for Super Bowl LIX and which teams offer strong value a year out from the game.

Buffalo Bills (+950)

The Bills came closer to eliminating the Chiefs than the Ravens did and have proven they can beat Kansas City in the regular season. They may be best positioned to knock off Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs, if anyone can.

There was concern Buffalo’s window would be closed after 2023. I’m not so sure. There are a few key free agents here, but with Stefon Diggs seemingly sticking around and Joe Brady locked in as OC, the offense is in strong shape. Brady found something special when he structured the offense around James Cook and the running game, which combined with the emergence of Dalton Kincaid plus Khalil Shakir’s development should mean Josh Allen won’t have to rely as heavily on Diggs as he once did.

The Bills’ defense held up well without two key starters in Matt Milano and Tre’Davious White. Terrel Bernard and Taron Johnson both took steps forward in 2023, and Rasul Douglas looks like a major bargain next season after his great half-season in Buffalo. The unit should be fairly deep in 2024, even with a notable loss or two.

Gabe Davis and Leonard Floyd are key free agents, but the Bills have at least one more year with a serious chance to get over the hump.

Miami Dolphins (+1500)

If you’re not confident in the Bills’ chances of winning the AFC East, this is one to consider: The Dolphins weren’t far from securing a top-two seed in the AFC this season. There are concerns about Tua Tagovailoa’s ability to win on the road in the playoffs, but what if he doesn’t have to?

Mike McDaniel completely unlocked the running game in 2023, taking some pressure off Tagovailoa. Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane should all be dynamic weapons in 2024, while the offensive line should stabilize with Connor Williams’ return and Austin Jackson’s improvement.

There was a lot to like from the defense in 2023. Jalen Ramsey was a perfect fit, while Andrew Van Ginkel and Zach Sieler emerged as strong starters. By the end of the season, the defense was as depleted by injuries as you’ll ever see. Vic Fangio’s departure is a bit of a concern, but a return to health by the defense could make Miami a prime title contender worth considering at +1500 odds.

Houston Texans (+2000)

Anything is possible with the right quarterback. That’s even more true with a quarterback on a rookie contract. The Texans look a bit like the Bengals did when Cincinnati reached the Super Bowl in 2021. They have a second-year star quarterback, young head coach, an offensive play-caller from the Shanahan/McVay system, and a defense brimming with unheralded talent.

Houston also has plenty of money to work with. Some of it will go to Jonathan Greenard, who along with Will Anderson Jr. will be part of a terrific pass-rushing duo. Derek Stingley Jr. and Christian Harris are also emerging as franchise cornerstones for DeMeco Ryans’ unit.

The return of Bobby Slowik is great news for the offense, which has Tank Dell returning. C.J. Stroud can already hang with some of the best quarterbacks in the AFC, and the door is open for the Texans to contend for a title starting in 2024.

Dallas Cowboys (+2000)

The talent continues to be there for the Cowboys. They just still haven’t put it together in the playoffs. That might give Dallas some sneaky underdog value heading into 2024.

There isn’t much to question with the passing game, aside from perhaps some concern about Dak Prescott in the playoffs. It was the defense that largely caused the trouble in the playoffs this season, but Mike Zimmer was a strong hire to fill Dan Quinn’s role, and the unit has too much talent to play that poorly consistently. Micah Parsons is an electrifying anchor of the front seven, while the return of Trevon Diggs alongside DaRon Bland should make the secondary more stable.

The concerns about Prescott are fair considering his playoff track record, but he was surgical for much of the 2023 season. At some point that has to translate, right? Fortunately for him, the NFC isn’t loaded at the quarterback position, and the Cowboys could have an easier path to the No. 1 seed with the entire NFC South on their schedule.
