The Mythrol appeared in The Mandalorian season 2 episode "Chapter 12: The Siege" after initially appearing in the Star Wars series' very first episode. But who plays the humanoid alien with amphibian biological makeup? The man behind the costume in the Disney+ series is Horatio Sanz, a former Saturday Night Live Cast member.

The Mythrol first appears in The Mandalorian series premiere, as he's captured by the bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who returns the target to the leader of The Bounty Hunters' Guild, Greef Karga (Carl Weathers). In "Chapter 12: The Siege," Din Djarin returns to the planet Nevarro, where he discovers that the Mythrol is paying back a 350-year debt to Greef Karga, the result of his "creative accounting." After leaving The Child with a droid teacher, the trio travel to an old Imperial base with Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and hope to liberate the planet once and for all in "The Siege", which was written by Jon Favreau and directed by Weathers.

Upon arriving at the imperial base in The Mandalorian, the Mythrol initially tries to stay in his speeder but eventually tags along. Inside, the group plans to overhaul a reactor but then discovers that not only is Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) alive but that he's also conducting cloning experiments involving The Child's blood. After stormtroopers attack, Din Djarin heads back to the Razor Crest, and the Mythrol splits with the others in a massive ship that crushes his speeder. The Mandalorian season 2 episode "Chapter 12: The Siege" is a comedic showcase for Sanz, who was a Saturday Night Cast member from 1998 to 2006, with a specialty in physical comedy.

Horatio Sanz in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Sanz dropped over 100 pounds after leaving Saturday Night Live and subsequently earned an ALMA Award nomination for portraying Horatio in the ABC series In the Motherhood. He also had notable character arcs in Big Lake and Are We There Yet, and most recently appeared as Wayne in the Showtime series Black Monday. On the big screen, Sanz has appeared in the comedies Road Trip, Step Brothers, and The Dictator. He also voiced Duncan in Wreck-It Ralph and portrayed Francis Ford Coppola in the 2019 film Zeroville, directed by James Franco.

In The Mandalorian, Sanz makes the case that he should have a bigger role in the franchise. Given the more stoic poise of Din Djarin, the Mythrol offers a different dynamic with other characters, especially during expositional moments before the big drama plays out. He also comes with a certain set of skills useful enough that he plays a key part in the attack on the Imperial base. Whereas Sanz often used physical comedy on Saturday Night Live, he's evolved into a prolific character actor because of his versatility and vocal talent, which is used exceptionally well in The Mandalorian.
