Bad Image error status 0xc0e90002 after office installation...help!

I have just bought (today) a new laptop and paid for a software bundle of mcafee anti virus and office 365.

I have

loaded up new laptop

installed mcafee - as recommended first by shop

installed office 365

at completion of install the following message appears

Outlook.exe - Bad Image

c:\Windows\SYSTEM32\VCRUNTIME140.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0e90002

I'm pretty baffled as to how - having done nothing else on the computer - this can happen.

I have since then uninstalled, rebooted and installed  - and it has the same error.

Anyone any tips?

Hi Jon,
Try disabling the antivirus when you install office.

Do you have visual stupdio installed? You may want to check the Control panel > Programs and features for visual c++ - repair it.

Do you mean you purchases mcafee and office with your computer or where they actually bundled together?

once Home mode was enabled everything worked fine.

Thanks for your help

Interesting. You shouldn't have been able to install Office in S mode - only the version from the windows store, which was designed to work with S mode. If you installed it from the store, let me know and I will let my support contacts know.

One reason I choose Windows 10 in S mode is for that added security.  Then I bought the subscription Office 365 through the Window Store - and I get that darn error.  looks like money down the drain again.

I had the same issue when I purchased my laptop.  I'm pretty sure it is due to the million Yes or No questions asked during setup regarding whether you want to send Microsoft information about your files, activities, etc - all of which I responded no to, because I am CPA and have a lot of confidential information on the laptop.

To disable Window S (security mode), do the following:

Go to Settings

- Updates and Security

- Activation

If the top of the page says "Windows S", your computer is in Security Mode.  Under Windows Home, choose Go to Store

Click on the "Free" download button for Windows Home

Go back to the Activation page to ensure that the top of the page now says "Windows 10 Home".

Why can't you install Office in S mode? I thought any products from the Store are compatible with S mode..?

I'm running Windows 10 in S mode and have an Office 365 Home trial subscription.  I just bought this laptop a week ago and things were fine until yesterday when I started receiving the same error message when attempting to open any Office app.  I hadn't done much in the week since I bought it so I did a system restore and everything was fine again...until about an hour ago, same error message again.

I don't want to switch out of S mode unless I have to.  Is this the only way to make the Office apps work again?

I am getting the exact same error.  I bought this laptop on Sunday.  Everything was working until yesterday; this morning I needed to edit a spreadsheet and a word document and … boom, this error came up.  I am running Windows 10 in S mode and do not want to switch out either.

None of the office applications launch.  How do we fix this?

Spoke to a Microsoft Advisor, he suggested disabling S mode, so I did, now everything works.  I told him I didn't really want to do that but he said his personal experience is Windows Defender is enough protection for his device and additional antivirus software isn't necessary.
