Looks like an illustration of Mother Goose.
Yep and I'd bet it was taken out of a book of nursery rhymes. My guess based on similar books I've seen is early 20th century, as early as 1900, maybe as late as 1950. Again just a guesstimate. She could have stumbled on it like that already, or she could have framed it from a childhood storybook herself. You may be able to see more detail if you take it out of the frame, but probably no date since that would've been near a title page in the book.
I remember this from when I was a kid. Definitely M.G.
The first Mother Goose book dates from 1697. This is undoubtedly newer than that.
Yes!
I wonder if your great grandma was using it as a kitchen witch.
Hi, what's a kitchen witch and how one can "use" it? I'm just curious, is it like kitchen talisman or what :D
It’s a witch doll - IMHO handmade yourself or from a loved one. Could have originated in Norway. They usually look like plump old ladies. About the size of a squirrel, or smaller.
She maintains a positive vibe in the kitchen, prevents things from spilling or getting burnt.
I haven't burned toast since mine was installed. They really work!
My thoughts exactly!!
That picture was in a book of nursery rhymes i had as a kid circa 1976.
Absolutely! Was your book rather large? I recall mine being quite large—or maybe this was my perception bc I was small? Definitely huge compared to my little golden books
Ahhhh...Golden Books....
And with a checkerboard border? I definitely had mother goose book with this pic on the cover with a checkerboard border
I have my mom's nursery rhymes book and this pic is in the book. Mom was born in 1934, so it is very vintage and unless this pic is in a reprinted book it is vintage. I'll try to find the book and see what printing I have. I've seen that pic all my childhood reading my mom's old books at Grandma's house.
Wow! Would love to see it. I do t believe this is a re-print, it looks to be an original.
I noticed that you mentioned vintage. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! Sorry if this is not relevant.

Thank you for all the feedback. The picture is quite large, so I don’t think it came out of a book. It’s a perfectly square Beautiful Wooden frame about 2’5” on each side. The back is held together by nails. I just may (very gingerly) see if I can take the back off to see if there is any information on the back.
Real 🙏🏽🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿
Old Mother Goose,
When she wanted to wander,
Would ride on the back,
Of a very fine gander.
Old Mother Goose, when she wanted to wander, would ride through the air on a very fine gander.
Mother Goose! Could be from 30s-40s.
Older than that even. Many nursery rhymes are very old.
Most of them were originally satirical…such as Humpty Dumpty.
And often politically subversive.
Absolutely!!!
Dear Mother Goose, when she wanted to wander, Would fly through the air on a very fine gander….
